JFETs for Brownout Overdrive

What 2N5457 Ids and Vg readings should I cherry pick for a Brownout Overdrive?
I have a range from -
.12 Ids 85mV to 1.2 Ids .84V
I have a group around .25 Ids .18V and a group around .70 Ids .49 Vg.
What results should I expect from the different readings?
I read your JFET article. It is a bit over my head at this point in time. ( ;

I have an inexpensive transistor and cap tester.
For my purposes it gets me in the ballpark.
I am used to measuring NPN and PNP transistors. Targeting hFE readings for performance - theoretically.
By using the given Brownout schematic - which end of the spectrum I posted earlier delivers the most gain? Not that the most gain is my objective. But it would give me an idea of selecting JFETs for my pedal.
Thank You for responding !

I have a similar tester and it DOES NOT measure Idss or Vp. It measures Id at some arbitrary Vgs. All we know from these measurements (2nd pic) is that Vp > 0.19V and Idss > 0.27mA. Your best bet is to put sockets on the board and try them. Or do Like I do and breadboard the circuit first.

More people will see this post if you had posted in General Questions.

I already put sockets and transistors in to checkout the pedal. I like it! I am building a second one. I posted here because of your article on JFETs. BUT I know where you are coming from. ( ;
