JHS revives ROSS pedal brand

i gigged with a Ross phaser clone on my board for years. For bass, it sounded the best. The PCBs I had made sound great, too. But now, I am curious about the jfet based one.

I wonder if some “simpler” pedals (read: less external knobs/controls) won’t be the next trendy thing. I know Ross isn’t “new” but between these and the new thing from 1981 I can already hear the YouTube influencers going on about how they’re “expertly tuned so they hardly need any tweaking” or “less time tweaking knobs leaves more time to make music” or “reacts so well to your playing that two knobs is all you need, the rest is in your hands” or so on and so forth. You know how it goes…just an aside anyways…

… that said I’d probably be up to build some if we got PCBs going cuz less knobs typically equals more cheap 🤷‍♂️

Now that I've built a ton of pedals with a ton of options and know what I like, I'm definitely leaning more towards less knobs and options.

If there's no flanger, does rest of it of it actually matter? It's an incomplete set sold by the biggest pokemon trainer of pedal collecting. That should bother him more than it bothers me. 🤑

I haven't looked at the schematic for this but I'm assuming it was built in the 70s, and seeing as how a lot of the Ross stuff was pretty much the same as mxr (likely copied each other's homework) I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this is pretty much an mxr flanger right?

I'm pretty sure they won't make any 4 knobs for the moment because the tooling to make the custom enclosure must be really expensive. With the 2 knobs enclosure they released 5 very useful and popular pedals. With the 4 knobs enclosure you have the Flanger, Phaser/Distortion and Stereo Delay. The line already has a Phaser and a Distortion, so a combined effect is unnecessary. I don't know how many people may want the Stereo Delay or the Flanger, but I guess it doesn't justify ordering an expensive custom enclosure. Maybe they can use a 2 knobs enclosure and put the missing knobs as mini knobs on the side of it? Who knows. But form a financial point of view, I can understand the decision.

Maybe they'll try a Ross version of this?

Looks like Sweetwater already pulled the product pages.
Maybe to keep the 3 sales from happening before they're marked down 70%...
$40 Ross compressors coming to STOTD soon!
