Kliche Overdrive build

Awesome. Let’s see the amp too!
Happy to oblige. This is a Boothill amps 5E3 kit. I wasn't too crazy about this amp when it was done (hence why it has no cabinet lol). It turned out perfect, just like it should, but it just wasn't my sound. The clean sound is to die for, like with my US Strat, just classic Fender glassy clean tone. But I rarely play clean. And if you crank it full volume to get a more over driven tone, it's too loud for the house, and will damage your ears. This new pedal on the other hand, makes the amp sound killer at manageable volumes. Just what I needed. By the way I tried my low watt Weber load dump on it and it didn't sound good. Nothing like this pedal. Whoever came up with this Klon original design has some skills. It sounds way better than my brittle, trebly Tube Screamer (sold) or my G2D Custom Overdrive (sold).

Short audio clip made with a Galaxy S21. It likes to automatically change mic levels on me and I haven't figured out how to turn it off. Not too bad on this clip but it's there at the end.

A couple years ago I ordered a bunch of components for about a dozen builds, most of them from Tayda but also some bulk stuff from Mouser or Digikey (I forget which). I calculated an average of $22 per build. Cost may have gone up last year though.

That doesn’t take into account the initial costs of buying an iron, solder, various pliers and wire cutters, solder sucker, vises and such, etc., but those startup costs get amortized over a long period of time.

So dumb question alert at full gain. Is this pedal supposed to have no signal with footswitch off if the power supply is off? I ask because I built a Boss CE-2 clone recently and it does pass the the signal with footswitch off when there's no power. Yes I know why would I play with the power off, it's more of a out of curiosity. But also it makes me wonder did I build my Kliche pedal wrong?

Edit: OK I should have Googled this before posting. Apparently the Klon Centaur is not true bypass so neither is this clone.

Because it’s a buffered bypass, it needs power to pass signal through the components whether it’s engaged or not. True bypass pedals don’t need power because you’re sending the signal directly from input to output via the footswitch.

Thanks I learned something.
