Magnet pedal board

So, I got this idea reading another post about using neodymium magnets to hold a pedal on a pedal board. I had some very small magnets and they really didn't fit the screw head, so the magnet didn't make direct contact. I bought these larger ones which are 20mm wide, 5mm tall and have a 5mm wide countersunk hole.

The screws fit below the surface now and it does make good contact. I'm going to coat them with a very thin layer of silicone to see if that keeps them steady enough to stay in position after stepping on the switch.

But it's time to make dinner now, chicken soup tonight. More later!

I’ve used those on some woodworking projects and they are definitely strong. I’d be afraid that they’d slow the electron flow through the pedals, effectively affecting the overall tone.

Curious how the polarities would affect setting pedals next to each other. Cool idea.

I think the possibility overlooked issue here is you need something ferrous to stick them to. Most all metal boards are aluminum which is non ferrohs. A steel board is going to be very heavy. One could maybe build a wood board with tslots for other magnets or inbed strips of ferrous metal, if all your pedals are the same depth.
Or, just stick em to the fridge I guess.

I have thought about a tslot rail board before, with some arpeture that mounts to the pedal and pivots with a tslot nut on it.
But no time for that...

Some small angle iron could be an interesting solution. The way those magnets are extending past the edge of the pedal you’d get contact on two surfaces and you’d also have a stop as extra insurance against them sliding.

Your post reminded me of a quick & cheap pedalboard i knocked up for my son!
My Son had started accumulating to many pedals for a Bass Player & rocked up one day with this $15.00 Slatted Board from IKEA!!!.
I removed the screws as it was a bit wonky, Used real wood glue & replaced all the screws.
I had some of those wind in threaded 3'8'' inserts so I put 1 on each side of the back 2 corners & glued them in for extra strength.
I screwed 2- 21/2 inch 3/8'' cup head bolts so it sits up at the back.
The Compulsory flat black paint was next , the following day the 3M adhesive loop was applied ,
He has been using it everyday for at least 3 years & it still holding up.

Do you know what they sell that as?
Gorm shelf. Comes in packs of two. I did this exact same thing for me and a friend, since there are two of them. Industrial. Velcro is where it’s at. It’s a great board to keep you feom chasing them down on the floor.

Did you say too many pedals for a bass player? No such thing. 😁
