MMBFJ201 test

Hello. I have the MMBFJ201 from DigiKey and was testing using "resistance" approach (MM on Ohm... Source->negative Drain to positive....am expecting no resistance)

When I test the chip prior to SMD - I get 0L (as expected)
When I put the chip on board I get .7K resistance between Source and Drain (not expected at elast per the test protocol I have seen on line...)

I am testing only the chip on its board (not as part of broader circuit).
When I do hFE test using MM I'm getting about 305 similar to the typical J201 (ie non SMD J201)....

Any idea why the resistance changes ?
Will this impact pedal circuits?
