Muzzle Not working properly

I hate being that guy but I'm stuck on this one.

I built this up with the side chain passthrough, exactly as shown in the build doc.

Populated the board to stock except, I'm using a pre-wired LED that has the CLR built-in so I jumpered R21 and R22 with a 0ohm resistor

I have not seen the red light yet. It does not appear to trigger the gate. And sounds terrible when activated.

I tried running it just straight from the guitar into key in the key out to amp in and get no change.

It's a Small Bear enclosure so the inside has a ton of paint on it so I tried installing a ground wire from the middle pad to both sleeves of the key's. Still no good.

First video is with the no effects loop just straight thru the keys

2nd video is with effects loop. Input jack goes to amp send output goes to amp return.

Amp is Marshall DSLH with a serial effects loop.

Only thing I haven't done is reflow solder. That will be my next steps.

With this build you have to be really careful with the side jacks, you can wire them wrong / short them on components easily. Also picture 7 shows a burnt green cable, make sure it still does its job without shorting.

The general grounding scheme of the pedal is also a bit wierd with those four jacks, make sure you are 100% following the build instructions.

From what I can tell in your vid the red light doesn’t illuminate, and both should when the gate is active, something is dumping Vcc to ground. Omitting R21 might not have helped the situation…
Interesting. I did initially install the 5k6 in r21 and r22 since I forgot the pre wired LED already had the CLR. So maybe I did something when I pulled both 5k6s. I will check there thoroughly.

Not saying that’s exactly the problem, there are a lot of other things that could be going on, but that’s the first place I would start… I can also post voltages for the retrofit module and the threshold pot, the CP and 72 should be self explanatory.

Let's look past the LED circuit for a minute (but keep in mind that it isn't working properly)... It very well could be a symptom, but it isn't causing the poor sound issue.

Whatever is causing the sound issue, on the other hand, could definitely be affecting the gate / threshold circuit.

Could you remove the loop jacks entirely and jumper together the two outer pads for the loop on the PCB?
