I don't remember how I found PPCB. All I know is that I was at a pretty great party, and I went home, and the next thing I knew I woke up here...and Fig was there, and Chuck Bones, and Big Monk..and in the distance, a child laughing...

Actually, itt was sometime in the Summer of 2020...I decided to get into pedal building after putting it off for years (I never had the time!). The first pedal I built was the Twin Face, followed by an MK II Tonebender...though it was almost a Blue Box. I was always curious about this pedal, based entirely on the fact that Jimmy Page used one on Fool in the Rain. He did, too. There is a bit if controversy online (naturally) regarding if he even used one at all. He did. The basis of the argument is that the Blue Box creates an octave 2-steps down, and the tone in Fool in the Rain is one octave down. However, when running the pedal into OD (Catalinbread DLS), that double octave disappears, and there is now just a single octave down...just like the tune...

It's a fun pedal but it pretty much only does one thing, and that's it. Tons of fun to play around with, but not really all that practical. The build was super easy. Went with a pre-paint Tayda blue. I did the drilling myself because I didn't feel like finding the right coordinates for the Tayda Drill Service. I did notice paint chipping off when I started drilling pilot holes (pictured). I've never had that happen before. Not too big a deal, though. There is one valid complaint/observation: even with the level maxed the effect is a shade below unity. Sounds great boosting something else, though...

Sweet! I built the Fuzzdog version which has some mods baked in - toggle sw between 1 or 2 octaves down, and output volume boost built in. Still a 1 (or maybe 2 ) trick pony, but a little more useful. But for something to plug in and having fun, you’re already there!

Ironic- I just got the PCB due to Fig’s generosity and ordered the blue enclosure from Tayda. I hand drill all my enclosure and typically don’t have any chipping. I wonder if there was an issue with this paint job or was the drill speed too low. With this intel, I’ll be careful with my drilling of this enclosure.

Great build and great discussion!

Not sure, exactly. I wondered if maybe the paint didn’t cure completely before it was wrapped. Once I drilled the whole out to full size you couldn’t tell…

I too had this problem the coworker I just did was in metallic candy yellow and the finish was bubbling up when I drilled the holes i agree with @Coda i don’t think these recent batches cured right. Btw I literally ordered a light blue enclosure 3 days ago for the MO 😎 keep us updated on how the drilling goes maybe this will be an ongoing thing (hopefully not) with these colored tayda enclosures…
