MXR Rockman X100

I got mine from sweetwater last week. I played with it for about 5 minutes. Initial impressions, not impressed. The chorus didn’t sound great and the distortion didn’t sound as good as I remember my Proposition sounding (gave it my brother). Gonna give it some more time later. Anybody else play one yet? What are your thoughts?

Has this MXR Rockman been traced yet?
@Robert maybe? Is it somewhere on some list? I'd happily trace it myself if I had one around... 🔬

Did you sell all your Rock engines?

Also I agree, Rob will you be selling a PCB for this? I already have a MN3007 ready to go.

If someone does build and sell the Rockman PCB (please) it would be nice to do the switching so that one could turn on the chorus portion all by itself, and use it just as a chorus pedal.

I will do a build report when/if I get this thing working right. A circuit board would have made it easier, but I need more frustration in life. Shout out to Caspercody, I believe it was his stripboard layout I started with for my first home made "Rockman," and then I got wrapped up in learning the DIY Layout Creator software for this IMG_0176.JPG

I attached my files for my layout. The NEW.DIY.PDF is the DIY Layout Creator file. Just change the name by deleting the (.PDF). Hopefully you will be able to open with DIY Layout Creator. If someone wants to combine the (3) boards into one.

For the actual PDF file, if you print this with NONE in the Page Placement and Scaling Type it will be the actual size of the Vero board. I like to print in color and tape to the Vero board.

The PNG file is just a copy of the project.

I did not include the 2.2K resistor (R10) on the trim pot, or the pot for the compressor.

The difference on this new layout to the old one is mostly value changes to match the schematic at this thread:

Caspercody, your revised layouts are much appreciated. I will be able to use them to verify my work, especially since I dove in the deep end of the DIY Creator pool. My main problem right now is getting enough time to focus on finding the right compression jfet, bias resistors, and some other component values I'm tweaking .....but maybe there will be an X100 circuit board by then? I think I asked the question before, but has anyone else routed the distortion through EQ2 instead of the default EQ1 shared with Clean 1? Maybe not the target sound, but a free bonus with some switching.

I really doubt that the DIY community would be interested in tackling something this complicated. I'm studying it to satisfy my unhealthy curiosity about all things Rockman-related. There's much to learn that can be applied in various unrelated projects.
I suspect you're right about the DIY community and the level of complication. Since releasing the schematics and original PCB board clones (single-sided), we've had only one DIYer ask for more information. Even then, there was no follow-thru.
