Is running with the devil the song where the chorus is "running with the devil"? I think I've heard that one.
That era of rock is just a cultural blind spot for me. I got into playing guitar when I was deep into hardcore punk. I blew off the whole hard rock/heavy metal/hair metal thing because the commercialization and decadence didn't sit right with me - being a teen I didn't really have a good sense of nuance (I still probably don't). As my tastes have changed I've just never really been in a position where listening to a Van Halen album seemed like a good idea.

I tried again about a month ago. Every so often I hear about how Van Halen’s ________ album is a classic.
Eruption is sick, but none of the other songs on the first two albums do anything for me.

Man, the 89s hair bands were ok, but Van Halen got us through. I don’t worship at the alter of Frankenstein (the guitar, not the Dr) but there was some good writing in there. Before Eddie, nothing like that had been done since early country and western (look it up) and blues.

Growing up, one of my friends older brothers claimed Eddie was the best electric guitarist ever. At the time I thought that was ridiculous. But now I get it. It’s crazy how good he is.

Pointer Sister's released JUMP in 1983 on their Break Out album, a year later VanHalen covered it. 
However, Eddie and Alex had a strong influence on a young duo who covered VanHalen's cover, though there was some KrissKross-up of some lyrics, I think. Maybe.
