Could you get more gain out of this by upping the 2.2m to say 4.7m?

I popped a 390pF cap in for C5, and it sounds the same with or without it, so might up it to see at which point I can detect a difference.

I had a bit of time with it yesterday and really like it. I keep trying to like the silicon Fuzz Face, I like what other people can get out of them, but I struggle with it. Someone here suggested I try the Titania2 Fuzz, which I have found much more usable. The Golden Fleece is it’s own thing, but I’d say it sits between the two tonally, the fuzzy texture is different to both though.

You may have better luck either removing or making the emitter resistor smaller.

If I'm reading the data sheet for the MMBT5088 it's marking is '1Q' as shown in your photo, so it looks like its a 2N5088

The diode with the blue ring looks identical to my russian 9DE.

5088 and 3904 sound pretty similar to my ears but this probably confirms it as a 5088.

I'll have a play with diodes next, I think I have some 9DEs somewhere. Also interested to see if the High Road is just different diodes or anything more.

A 1k pot for r4 and you got yourself a gain control.

It almost seems pointless, it would just stay dimed. The volume cleanup from the guitar is pretty good and provides lots shades of dirt

I get that. If you make this with an MPSA13 in there though a gain knob is handy.
