NAGD! New Acoustic Guitar Day (sort of...)

Well, this is my only Black Friday/Cyber Week haul this year.
And it really wouldn't have been on my radar if it weren't such a ridiculously good deal.

I got a Fender Player Acoustasonic Telecaster. (The made in Mexico ones).

I remember when Fender first released the Acoustasonic line I thought it was the dumbest thing ever, heh. Neither fish nor fowl. Plus the Corona made ones were way overpriced in my opinion. (That opinion hasn't changed).

But I guess they've been doing well enough for Fender to release a Mexican "Player" version with some stripped down features.
Even the Player version is way overpriced for what it is, in my MOST HUMBLE opinion heh. There's no way I'd pay $1100-1200 for one of these.

But, enter 2023 Black Friday and MIRC. (Musical Instrument Reclamation Corp). These guys buy wholesale defective products from the manufacturer directly and refurbish them to like new condition then sell them to retailers as B-Stock, Seconds, etc. They also have a direct Reverb store where I came across this one.

They had a couple listed at $499. Now that's a price I could live with, so I snagged it to check out. It came with a nice gig bag and looks, plays, sounds brand new.

Main reason for getting it is to see if I can track some acoustic parts direct without investing in some decent mic's and the hassle of reconfiguring my whole recording setup every time.

The Player series has 6 different "voices" using a noiseless pickup and an under saddle transducer. Then with the magic of Fishman's DSP engine it spits out some pretty convincing acoustic sounds. The only thing I'm interested in is the two acoustic voices which are a "small body mahogany OO" and a "rosewood dreadnaught".
And you can blend the two for infinite sounds in between. I have to say it's pretty slick and I'm impressed with the sound.

Sitting in a mix it can pass for an acoustic much better than running my "good" guitar with transducer only into my rig. Playing it solo, it still sounds a bit piezo-ish to me but the Fishman DSP is pretty impressive in making it sound like an acoustic.

The other voices are electric based, which I have no interest in.

Anyway, just messing around with it since it arrived, I put a set of Elixir 12's on it and tweaked the truss rod a bit but otherwise it was ready to go.
I've already tracked my first acoustic part on something I'm working on.

I think those look really cool. I have wanted to try one for a while now.
Looks like they have a couple left at that price.

Thanks for posting about these. They’re selling some new b-stock MIJ telecasters that look better and better the lower they price them, and I was thinking about pulling the trigger now that they’re below 600.
