Do I need a 100w tube amplifier head?

No.

Is it awesome?

Hell yes it is.

Back in April I bought an Orange TH-30 head off reverb as a birthday gift for myself. It was a cool amp, but not exactly what I was looking for. I could never get the shape knob dialed in to a spot where I was totally happy with the EQ. The clean channel was almost clinically clean sometimes, but if you turned it up it started breaking up because it was set up like a non-master volume amp. I put the TH-30 on FB Marketplace thinking I could sell it and use that money to buy a Wangs 2204 or put it towards a Ceriatone. Nick at Ceriatone told me in an email that the current wait time on a new amp is 36 weeks. OUCH.

So when I got offered this JCM 2000 I couldn't really pass it up. The main board has already been replaced to fix the bias drift issue and the 16 ohm output jack has had the ground mod done to it. Pretty much should take care of any issues these amps have been known for. I'm really impressed with how nice the cleans are on the amp. I've been playing a lot on the Lead 1 side of the Ultra channel. The Marshall cab has G12-T75 speakers in it that I plan on swapping to Greenbacks. That's a whole other project though.

Damn that's cool. I'm planning on picking up a Marshall after Christmas and it'll either be a JVM or one of these. They're really great amps IMO.

If it was me I'd probably go for a H30 and a greenback or a H30 with a V30.

You can never go wrong with a Marshall, unless you don’t have someone to carry it, ddaaaammn I had a 3 channel combo Marshall that weighed just about 100lbs. My cousin has it now, keeping it in the family in case I need to play it.

I have a Peavey cabinet with Warehouse Guitar Speakers in it, their Veteran 30 (Vintage 30) and HM75 (G12T-75) in an X pattern. I've been playing through it and my Orange PPC212 loaded with the Vintage 30s. The Marshall cab needs a little TLC. I took the speakers and baffle out to replace the grillcloth, which I still haven't bought yet. I've been watching a ton of speaker comparison videos on youtube and it's come down to either the standard G12m Greenbacks or the G12m-65 Creambacks. I'll probably go with the greenbacks because they're cheaper and even with the lower wattage I think I'll be fine. There's no way I'm going to be playing this thing on 11.
