New cabinet grillcloth

I bought this Marshall 1960B cab a while back. I took the baffle out to fix the t-nuts for the speaker mounting screws and decided to swap the grillcloth to this big checkerboard style. That was like two months ago (and I finally got around to ordering the grill cloth, thank you ADHD). There was some weird paint or something on the old cloth that you could faintly see in person, but it was more noticeable in pictures.

I got the cloth swapped last night, but had misplaced some of the hardware somehow. It's funny how you set all that stuff aside in a tupperware container in the cabinet then later on half of it isn't in the container anymore. Anyway, I think it really spiffed up the cabinet. I've been jamming around on vintage 30s for the past two months so these g12-t75 speakers are so different. Lots of people don't like them, but they match up with Marshall heads. I forgot how much bass these speakers put out. I could put the bass on 6 comfortably on the V30s, but around 4 is the sweet spot with these. I'd like to try some greenbacks or creambacks in the cab eventually, maybe mixed with the T75s in an x pattern.

That's on the list too. These are in OK shape, but the corners are broken off in a couple spots. I want to get some heavier Guage speaker wire too. It looks like the original wiring is maybe 20awg maybe.

That looks great. I have a Marshall 4x10 with a grill that has completely faded to light brown. Maybe I should try this???

I got this grill cloth from Mojotone. They have a bunch of different ones. Brent Purgason has a YouTube video showing how to do this to the 1960 cabs. I bet it's the same process.

I love that checkered Marshall grill cloth. I have used it quite a bit. I also really like the wheat coloured basketweave Marshall grill cloth - I use it on tweed style cabs quite a bit and it goes with everything. I have been building cabs with the black "western leather" srtyle tolex lately. It has a kind of paisley look to it, and the wheat grill cloth is perfect with it.

Hamish, I love seeing your amp builds. I noticed the paisley sort of look on that tolex. It looks pretty cool. After looking at a bunch of your threads I think this is the year I finally tackle an amp build. I'd like to build a 50w Marshall, 2204 circuit maybe, but I'm not sure if I should build something easier like a Champ first.

If you wanna build a 2204 or something, I say jump right in. A champ isn't really any easier, just a few less tubes and pots to wire up. Otherwise it's all the same components cuz you still got power and output transformers and all the components for the board, not to mention a 2204 chassis is way way easier to work inside of
