I picked this 2013 Les Paul 70s Tribute used at my favorite local guitar store yesterday. I was looking for a LP that I wouldn't worry about dragging all around, and this one was in the right price band and plays great... I'm sure it's been modified once or twice, but i like it...

Awesome, I think the Tribute is great value for money for an LP with Gibson on the headstock.

I have a 2011 w/ P-90s (just before they got pinged for the rosewood debacle) and it plays great (after I dressed the fret ends).

The only thing I can hold against it is the weight relief (which I am sure was a commercial decision to drive sales of the higher price ranges). That said, if I had it around my neck for 3 hours a night, I would be thankful for it :D
 
I think the weight relief is a very sensible idea. I have even paid for guitars because of the weight relief! I had a '58 Historic Les Paul which was chambered and it sounded fantastic. And my main guitar is a '53 Vintage Select Duo Jet which is extremely weight-relieved. Even my Tele is a thinline. Obviously those guitars were chambered for sonic reasons as well as weight (apparently the Thinline Tele was originally developed as a response to heavy timber), but I suspect the weight relieved Les Pauls won't suffer audibly from the holes inside.
 
Does the Tribute series have a satin neck or is it an "open pore" type neck finish?
I've looked at these quite a bit but have never played one. Seems like a really sensible option for a "real" Gibson.

This vintage it looks like it was original more of an "open pore" satin finish, rather than a filled-grain satin finish. Of course, I picked this one up used and while it's been very well looked after, the back of the neck is likely quite a bit smoother than it was originally...
 
I have one of the 2013 "Future Tributes" (a tribute to the future?) from the same line--it has 57 Classics, asymmetrical neck, and Steinberger gearless tuners. The tuners look odd but function quite well. Back in 2015 they were blowing these out because nobody wanted them. It was a great value, and I haven't found an LP I like better.
