I know a lot of you guys work in the HVAC world. After almost 20years for solid service we are replacing the Furnace and AC system. Kudos to you dudes that do this stuff, actually kudos to all installers of all home equipment. I worked in home improvement sales for a long time before completely changing paths, our installers were great. These dudes are great too.

Bye, money! It’s a good investment though
We live in a house that was built in 1915 and it has a pretty large window right next to the front door with a really old piece of glass in it. It has kind of terrified me with my daughter running around so I had a guy come last week to put some security film on it like they have on liquor store doors. It cost $300 but was well worth the peace of mind.

Here in Texas, our AC systems get quite a workout, especially this time of year. We replaced ours a couple years ago after having some humidity issues and being concerned about the wellbeing of my guitars. After having a proper heat load calculation performed, it turned out that the 3-ton HVAC system the house came with was severely undersized. We ended up going with a 5-ton fully modulating (inverter) 21 seer system. Our house has never been as comfortable nor have our electricity bills been lower than they have been after the upgrade. I hope that yours turns out to be great for you as well!

I sell HVAC for a living, what'd you get?

That's an outstanding system, what Brand?

Funny. We got AC installed in our home last year because of our cat! Lol. At least that’s the running joke with us. Hope it all works out for you

I lived in Houston for five years. The work load on ACs down there is nuts. Glad you ended up saving so much. 👍🏼

Funny story on that, we actually had a company come out and they replaced our 3-ton with a modulating Lennox 3-ton and it wasn't enough to control humidity. They installed the Lennox on a Saturday, I had them remove the system by the following Tuesday because it was embarrassingly expensive and wasn't performing as promised. We then got another company to perform a proper heat load calculation and they ended up installing the 5-ton Coleman Echelon system that we have now. Admittedly, I did NOT want to go with Coleman and it was full of issues up front (this was the installer's first time installing this system), but York finally updated their crappy software on their t-stats and the system has been running smooth ever since.

Whatever the reason, there's always an upside to upgrading your HVAC system.

I'm actually just north of Houston, in Conroe. I hope that you end up saving some money with your new one too! I'm sure the seer rating on your new system is better than your last (especially if it was 20 years old).

Echoing props to the home invaders who do good work.

Past winter the gas-heater shut off at my Mom's place, the HVAC crew that installed it came out and did a great job of updating the system after installing a new fan to replace the old one that had triggered the furnace's safety-off. They also did a complete system cleanse, something I doubt had been done, ever if maybe once, in the house's nearly 50-year history.

Had a similar experience in HK with the AC...

It’s pretty wild how many people on this forum are a part or were a part of the HVAC world in some form or another. Myself included. +10 for a shoutout to the guys in the field making peoples lives more comfortable. Especially in an area like mine. It’s June in Southern Arizona and it’s god damn hot. Busiest time of year for anyone working with refrigeration type of stuff out here.

HVAC? I grew up in muggy Milan, where it would be 40 C and >70% humidity all summer and only a bit cooler but still as sticky at night, without AC. Y'all are just a buncha wimps!

Kidding aside, I have respect for people in this field but not for the guys who've worked on my furnace over the years. The last guy half destroyed my bathroom mirror while tightening a nut. I also put a spell on my landlord, who refuses to pay for these repairs.

Anyway, NHD - New HVAC Day made me laugh out loud. Keep these New "non guitar/pedal thing" Days coming!

Where I live it's winter right now, but heating isn't really a thing! We bought a house which has faces due north at the rear (same as due south for you up north) so that the sun can flood in our rear windows and keep us warm in winter. It's rare that we need a heater in the rear of the house during the day. Maybe a week or two?

But my office is at the front where it gets a bit colder, so I'll sometimes use the AC on reverse for an hour or two to warm up the room.

Now summer is a different story. The AC gets a real work out then. Fortunately it doesn't get as humid as Milan, New York or Houston.
