Those guys defintely do listen and have on occasion started stocking various parts I've asked for over the years. Both Mouser and Digikey will at least look into doing so as well, IME.
Nobelium - tube bass preamp project

I've just reached a specialist of tubes here in France. He has recommended me a matched pairs of JJ Gold Pins 12au7 after having studied the Nobelium schematic.
I also grab a pair of 12ax7 for my incoming Bassdude (Tad V1+ selected and Tad 12ax7B), same process, the guy looked carefully at the schematic before recomandation.
Just to add more wind to the windmill :
I have a new bass !! My first passive bass : a Maybach Motone P. With it, the Nobelium has absolutely no noise.
My other basses are all active fitted with Sadowsky preamps and even if noises had 99% disappeared with new tubes in the Nobelium, I could still hear some in a silent room when volume knob was full open.
With the passive Maybach nothing can be heard. Probably because this one has the pick up cavity isolated.

I like the paint colours that SamuelG used on the Reverend pedal, I wonder if he blessed the pedal before he sold it.

Now if I could just convince Samuel to replace the "Feat The Rev" with C2CE and share the artwork I would be a very happy man, hint hint.

I didn't realised the C2CE finished pedal sits in a BB enclosure while the diy kit needs a larger box.
All 3 sound pretty much the same in my ears (at least the 2 Nobelium). Are they all using the same tube brand ? Makes me wonder if the person who made the video really makes us ear the 3 pedals or just faked it and used the same sound clip for the 3.

The Rev version uses NOS tubes, not sure the brand. Neptunium and the C2C Nobelium both use JJ. The XLR signal path of Nobelium only uses one tube, so if you're just using the XLR then the Neptunium and C2C Nobelium will be identical. Same circuit, even the exact same components.
The Rev build uses top of the line (without going insane) quality components everywhere and a different transformer, plus obviously the NOS tubes, so I wouldn't expect them to sound identical, but differences will be subtle. But we're talking about musicians, people pay extra for subtle differences all day every day.

I just checked the tubes I have and I think they are the same as what is in the Reverends pedals, they are definitely GE JAN 5814A tubes, thanks Daniel for sharing the supplier with me. DanielG also likes to put a LC filter on the incoming power to the pedal that most likely helps a bit as well with noise.
I imagine he is just preparing his sermons for today since it is Sunday morning now in Au, well maybe not right now since I think it is 3.37am where he lives, it's already 6.37 am where I am.

SamuelG explains how he adds a filter to avoid pedal cross-talk. But as long as isolated power supplies (like Cioks, Strymon, etc...) are used, it can't happen, right ?
@Tassieviking , please can you explain again how to implement the 3 way switch allowing the 45Hz filter ? I can't find the thread where you explained it.
(Here, it is 11.43 pm, still saturday).

Absolutely SamuelG, my bad. I was having a bad night and on my 4th dose of oxy when I wrote that, painful bone disease and despite that in 2 weeks I am starting Paramotor lessons where I have to run with a 30kg 25HP 4ft propeller on my back.
I will se if I can find it, if not then I will redraw it and post it.

To make the HPF switch have 2 values you have to replace the ON-ON switch with an ON-OFF-ON 3 position switch, remove a small copper trace on the switch side of the PCB that connects terminal 2 to terminal 3 of the switch and then put another capacitor from terminal 1 to terminal 3 of the switch. BE VERY CAREFUL cutting into the PCB when removing the track between terminal 2 and 3 on the switch, use a very sharp knife and score it next to the pads and gently lift it out, remember the PCB is most like multilayer and we do not want to cut into any internal copper layers.
SamuelG might know the best value for the extra capacitor, I just add another 4n7 capacitor when I do it.
In one of the pictures it says please remove track between switch legs 1-2, it should say 2-3. I think the pictures explains it easy enough.
The original circuit has C8 always in the circuit and when you turn the HPF off you simply short C8 out with the switch and the signal goes straight past the capacitor.
When you turn the HPF on the switch opens and the signal goes through C8, all the mod does is add another capacitor (C8a) in parallel with C8 to increase the capacitance and thus lowering the HPF frequency.
In the switch left position C8 is shorted out, in the middle position the signal goes through C8 and in the right position the signal will go through C8 and the extra capacitor (C8a)

That's one of the main reasons I started buying the Unagi transformers, everyone else worth having was either difficult to deal with, prohibitively expensive, or both. I was able to get a couple Jensens when I first started doing D.I. builds, but it quickly started feeling like they didn't think I was worth their time. I tried Cinemag after that, but they took my money and ghosted me, it took a paypal dispute to get them to respond to my emails.

My first build had a "Lightning Boy" transformer in it, all pedals since have had the Unagi E4305 transformers in them, I think I have 3 spare Unagi transformers in the parts draw for future builds or maybe to fit into an amp I build.
I prefer the the tone of the Unagi.
