Now Playing... What are you Listening to Right Now?

One of the lost gems of my adolescence. I vividly remember hearing it in a record store in Cape Town but inexplicably didn’t buy it at the time.

Rediscovered this over the weekend after seeing original vinyls at ridiculous prices.

The opening track incorporates elements of tango, barbershop harmonies, boogaloo, and a tearing guitar solo followed by a fugue. Well, it was the end of the sixties and they made their eclecticism gell very nicely TMM. Arising from the remnants of the Blues Project, they featured the wonderful Richard Greene on violin, a criminally underrated fiddler. Ignore the odd cover design; there are gems within.

My dad has been a big fan of Supertramp for a long time. If you hear him tell it he's basically the first American to have discovered them :ROFLMAO: .

He was in the army in the mid 70's, was stationed in Germany, and was exposed to a lot of European bands that hadn't quite gained notoriety in the US yet, and Supertramp became one of his favorites. He got back to the little (at the time) two horse town he was from and exposed all of his friends to them and well, they apparently blew up from there :ROFLMAO:

Anyways, I never latched on to them the way my dad did, but they do have some great ones that I love listening to when I want to feel nostalgic. The organ in this song is just something special, though.

Happy 40th birthday to this absolute masterpiece of an album. Probably the best sounding album I’ve ever heard in terms of recording/production. My #1 desert island pick. I know a lot of y’all don’t dig the Dan, but I urge you to listen to this album from start to beginning. It’ll make you feel all of the feelings, and frankly I can’t imagine someone listening to this album and not grinning from ear to ear and vibing hard af with it!
