Sound in the OP — What if it's reverb overloading the next reverb's input causing the distortion?

The old Andy Wallace Lexicon PCM trick.
One of the best snare sounds I ever got was slamming the front end of a Yamaha Rev 5 on the gated Reverb setting with a really short tail and tucking it under the snare.
There's just something about clipping those early ADCs...
