First thing, I usually do a
motif on anything Joshy related but since it's inspired by the crayon (which is a baby color box) I decided to keep it simple. I do wish I'd chosen a darker red paint for the labeling but at least it's legible.
This thing is strange. I knew what I was getting in to but I can't help but question my own interest in building it. My thoughts going into it were that it's a "make it bad" button which I'm usually all about but it's almost like it's too honest in that badness. I definitely hear that Spoon chaotic guitar solo sound that gets mentions as a reference point.
Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked to have this on my shelf for fun and/or studio uses but I'm certainly not making room on the pedal board or anything. It adds a unique and grimey saturation that while not super useful to me as a bassist, I definitely see myself trying it on some stuff at my next session. Looking forward to plugging a rhodes in to it next week too. It's certainly a lot of fun with guitar.
The pcb was plenty easy to build for it's size and complexity. The only snag I encountered was that I had to lay one of those giant caps down to avoid the lid. Not a big deal.
