PT2399 delay circuits have always served me well :)
so far I’ve tried:
- Deep Blue Delay (Seabed)
- Magnetron (Magnetic Echo)
- Dark Rift (EQD Space Spiral)
- Aleph Null Tape Delay (effectslayouts mkI)
- DeadastronautFX Abductor II (4x PT2399)

I’ve always thought the Deep Blue was the unbeatable PT2399 option if you don’t want modulation, but I am a fiend for delays with modulation - and I reckon this Pelota 2 might be the winner for modulation out of all the PT2399ers I’ve tried so far.

This is my first Sheepylove build. the PCB layout is great, i like the unserious choice of fonts, and the faceplate design/option is fantastic w/ the integrated LED/indicator ‘lens’. super cool.

Easy build with nothing fancy required. only actives are TL072, LM358, PT2399 and an L78L05.

Highly recommend this project for anyone keen on a PT2399 delay, this one is probably my favourite so far.

i have no idea what the delay time range is on this, but it can go ridiculously long if you want it to. way longer than i would ever need.
in fact i think if i were to change / improve anything about this - i would either limit the maximum delay time (it's pretty degraded at super long times anyway), or some other way of making the delay time easier to dial in at faster rates, cos i did find it's a bit tricky to get the speed right when relying on visual cues with knob position/ (not that that really matters)

otherwise, great EQ balance, works well going into a lead channel, and absolutely excels at ambient cleans.

Love it! This is the one that got away from me. Built it a while back but didn’t work. Thankfully I have a board left.

That doesn’t sound like a PT2399 delay in your video either. Or maybe it’s your downtuned playing that tricking my ears. Great playing as always.

Awesome build and demo!

It’s my choice for pt2399 delay. I like to pair it with a reverb pedal, the pelota handles short reverb and the reverb handles long.
ay cheers 🤙🏻
yeah that sounds like a winning combo. whats your go to for a reverb?

just as well! don't sleep on it, this one's great.

maybe it's the eBow lol. goes really well with delay so i had to give it a feature

I have a Zoom MS-70CDR+ where I have a few reverbs in series to do the same thing. It's not amazing but it works and the price is good. (Same as a tuner and now you have other effects).

I am always disappointed with pedal reverbs. It's always a damn delay in parallel..

Oh delay time is set by series resistance between PT2399 pin 6 and ground. So you could change the delay time pot to 25k and only wire in pins 2+3. Then wire pot pin 1 to a SPDT common. Then a 22k-33k resistor between common and an outer switch lug. Then a wire from outer lug to the empty PCB pad for pot pin 1. The toggle shorts the extra resistor in one of the positions to give fast times, or puts it in series for long times

yeah i guess this is what a belton is (x3 PT2399), but tbh I've been pretty happy with what the BTDR-3H does, and even the -2H does a convincing job (for me..)
whenever i hear folks ragging on the belton/PT2399, it immediately makes me wonder what context they're using it in....

would you suggest that FV-1 reverbs are also delays in parallel?

That's a great build man

What kind of footswitch did you use with that daughterboard? Is it wired with hookups or does it have PCB pins?
thanks 🤙
just a simple momentary switch from tayda
daughterboard is wired up with 22awg solid core.

ay this would be a great mod for Sheepylove's next revision ;)

Okay cool. I'm making something with an SPST that's all and I'd prefer to secure the board to the switch with header pins

Was looking at these, but just 14 in stock at Tayda, and I'm not sure if you'd even get a PCB wrapped around it. Or if you could feasibly trim the pins once soldered in. Also soldering it right into the main board would be a repair hazard. Probably more trouble than it's worth

Tayda do sell ones with shorter pins that might be better SKU: A-7797

Yes, and it drives me mad. I dunno, it's a pet peeve. Reverb is a complicated thing, early echoes, different freq response on repeats, variable decays. I understand why the delay approach is used.
The Pelota is great with a tiny bit of modulation, so you can barely tell it's there. Makes it less sterile in repeats for me.
What could be interesting is modulation in the delay time, if that could be slightly randomised..
