So I order a single 1550-G from Mouser...

This enclosure is bigger than a 1590DD at 8.74" x 5.75" x 2.01". They retail at Mouser for $23.99. This is what they send.

For a retailer that you can order something like 23 35k SMD resistors and they will cut a strip to that exact amount and put it in a baggie for you, how do they do this? I double checked my bank statement to make sure I ordered just one. I did.
 
I'm beside myself that they made that mistake! The devil on my shoulder says say nothing and keep them.

The angel on my shoulder says I should return them with the devil shouting "only if they pay return shipping and arrange a pickup!"

As much as I wanted to keep them, I called Mouser and informed them of their mistake. They will provide me a return label for the 18 I did not order.

Wow! The shipping mistake angels have smiled upon Ye! My most expensive one was when they shipped me a 1200 cfm 4' x 20" stainless steel hood for the stove. I had originally ordered the wrong one, and cancelled that and ordered the 40" x 40" (I had too many windows opened and just clicked on the wrong 'BUY'). They refunded the credit card but didn't cancel the shipment.

This was obviously not a computerized order system, which mouser has. I suspect it is a unit of measure error. As in supposed to be EA but was CS. If you order another, you may get another case.

If that happens you should let us know, lol, be sure to include the part number!
 
Coming from a medium to large business environment, I know that shipping mistakes and shrinkage (theft) are depreciable... Every month the accountants run a report, and examine it looking for profit/lost conditions. Many times there's an exception report to just print everything out of 'normal'. They use this report to find unit of measure, and other mistakes that are then corrected. They take the loss in dollars and put that on the tax report. That amount is amortized over 5 years. What's that mean in English? Uncle Sam gives them the money lost by giving them that discount off their taxes. So Uncle Sam pays for it. Uncle Sam gives BILLION$ to people that don't deserve it. He can afford it....

Trust me, the devil in me definitely wanted to keep these and knows a giant entity like Mouser is not missing $437 worth of inventory.

That said, my rationale for returning it is focused on the micro-level. Some idiot obviously made a mistake and sent one entire carton of enclosures versus just one enclosure. It could be that the difference in that person keeping his/her job comes down to his managers realizing that mistakes can be remediated.

Or it could be some guy on his way out the door trying to stick it to the man,

The reason I didn't call to return the hood is because I knew the person responsible might loose their job. When they get the return it will have the packer number on it, and they might loose their job......
