Socketing Muffin Fuzz C2, 6, & 9?

Has anyone that built the Muffin fuzz socketed the Caps for C2, 6, & 9 so they could see the difference in sounds between 430p 470p and 500p caps? I think I might try it. Mainly because for the last 30 years I thought I had a Green Russian Pi, and it turns out I have a Green Russian Pi with a Civil War circuit board. Looks like the only difference in the parts list are those three caps and KitRae's site talks about the higher that cap is the more high end is rolled off giving a warmer tone to the distortion. Just curious if anyone has tried this and what their thoughts were.

There is more than those 3 caps that affect the tone of the different Muffs. You have to look at all the filters in the circuit and see if any of the resistors are different, which a few variants have different values for key resistors, also you have to look at the tone stack also. EHX changed these values a few times during the run. The 3 caps you listed will have a small affect on tone, but what changes the tone from version to version is the changes throughout the circuit. I have an original muff circuit and a Triangle Muff circuit and there is a difference in tone between them. Look over the entire circuit and socket all components that change to see the differences.

Yeah, but the low end of the tone knob retains highs and makes the whole sweep much more usable to me. I’ve never been one to run a muff anywhere beyond the middle/slightly more towards high end of the tone knob haha. Check out videos of the Elk Muff Sustainar, that was its trick.

I might have to give it a try. I have a couple of Muff variants, the 71 variant with the 500pF caps is a little dark, might brighten it just enough.

Ironically someone on Reddit asked pretty much the same question today and one of the replies sounds like a great idea. Anyone try something like this? Using a on/on/on switch in place of each cap and having the caps on the lugs of the switch? I snapped a screen shot of what the dude was suggesting, basically you’d end up with a cap choice toggle.

@Dan0h Socket is better idea, until you satisfied, found what you like. I learned from here
For me, on-on-on in that position is overkill.

@Chas Grant Yeah, that 3 tone switch in Aion is good. I was love that too, forced build with that after just 2 position because tagboard ideas. But, finally know, that isn't my way to tame Muff. Btw, i love Tri Dirty Booster. Just amazing muff variant.
