Stormy Weather

Had some harsh weather come through last night, we lost about twenty trees, 5 or so were really nice big oaks, a few across the driveway were fortunately small or one large dead pine of course the chainsaw I rarely use wouldn't crank, but my neighbor kindly came over with his big Stihl saw and made quick work of clearing the drive, got to get him a nice bottle of beverage.

Man I feel your pain totally. Had a tornado go through some farm property I own that is SO lush and my favorite place on earth. Of course when I went to inspect the damage, only the huge live trees fell, all the dead ones we still standing. My neighbor figured it was because the live trees had leaves, hence more surface area for the wind to grab hold of.

Had a guy come out to quote me on taking the lumber from the trees that fell. Dude didn't want a single tree on the ground, but wanted to cut down the rest of the live trees, which were species he want more. I basically would have cleared a massive part of land with the tornado and that dufus. Chainsawed and dragged the tornado trees with a 4wheeler. Still bummed every time I go there to camp and it just doesn't feel the same. Hopefully I'll still be able to came when I'm 90 when the smaller trees finally grow.

The typhoons in Hong Kong could do a lot of dammage, I still have the pics.
Currently, closest to home, it's the forest-fire that devastated Jasper.

Glad nobody got hurt with all those trees coming down. Sometimes, the injuries/accidents happen afterwards trying to clear the carnage!
Stay safe, lift those newly minted firewood pieces with your legs and not with your back.

I'll get out this weekend and get some pics

Nothing like the huge Jasper fire, but only like two miles or so from my place and still a major bummer for many of my friends who live on that side of the Columbia:

It was much much bigger on the back side of that ridge, lots and lots of choppers and airplanes zipping around over there for several days. We got smoked out a bit a few times when the wind shifted from the prevailing summer westerlies, which were blowing 40+ mph the day the fire started. Things were just finally starting to look more green after another fairly big fire in the same spot several years ago.

Yep, I remember choking on that smoke. I can't remember which recent Gorge fire this was but this golf pic is bonkers.

That's the Eagle Creek fire in Oregon, shot from across the river in North Bonneville WA. Looks like a lot of ash on the ground if you look closely. There were grapefruit size embers raining down in Stevenson from across the Columbia at one point. We were huffing smoke 25 miles downwind for weeks, extremely not fun.

Good neighbors are the best. Here's to that.

We're breathing in the air from the fires down in Cali, and it's just so wearing. I feel for those folks down there. My weather app has just said "Smoke" for the last week.

Rain, rain, go… no, please come again, and again, and again

I haven't even hiked up to where the worst was, these are just what's around the driveway. We're on 17 acres and we were right in the middle of it. Neighbors above and below us had nothing but leaves and few branches.

That reminds me of a ponderosa in my backyard as a kid—tall enough you'd see it from anywhere in the neighborhood. Came back from a scout campout and didn't see it and though it'd come down on the house. Thankfully it went the other way into a wooded area. But it was just like that, just right out of the ground.

Sorry to see all the damage you've got, though.

There's a huge one up on the hill looks like it took several others with it, need to hike up there and check it out, but I'm not as mobile as I used to be.
