String gauge what are you using?

Earnie ball 9s for regular tuning and 10 for half step and full step down tuning for stuff like GnR and MotleyCrue.

11’s for me. Used to do 9’s or 10’s but I spent a couple years almost exclusively playing bass. Going back to guitar it didn’t feel right until i put on 11’s or 12’s. Even experimented with 13’s on some guitars.

My tele currently has 9’s in standard tuning. In the past I used 10’s and 11’s. but I developed tendinitis in my wrist from repetitive work in a warehouse job. After I quit it would still bother me once in a while. So I started using lighter gauged strings and it hasn’t been an issue since.

my acoustic is in standard tuning and I use 11’s

GLP - Elixir 10-46
FS - Fender 10-46
PRS - undecided
Semi-Hollow I use Thomastik-Infield flat wound
Taylor GSMini - Elixir Bronze Nano 12-53
FJz - Ernie Ball flat wound 45-130

Ooooh gs mini. I still regret the walnut gs mini I fell in love with and didn't buy
I love that little guitar. I got the Koa, but they are all gorgeous. It needs stringing again. I can wear out a G & B pretty quickly. Better their fate be met through use rather than age, eh?

10-48 D'Addario Chromes (flatwound) for my Strat. I put the neck+bridge pickups out of phase and off I go into surf rock land. Also Zoot Allures
I used the same strings when I had a Tele for those sweet Blake Mills tones.

My Jon Spencer Teisco thing has D'Addario 11s and is tuned down to C standard. Low-rent baritone with those weird gold foils and the mile-high action.

My Silvertone parlor acoustic has Elixir 11s, my Takamine dreadnought D'Addario phosphor bronze 13s (hate these).

My Fender P bass has 50-100 Fender flats, my Mini P and Bronco both mount 45-100 Chromes and my HB Jazz bass knockoff still mounts the 45-105 D'Addario rounds it came with, bless its soul

Tele has 9-42 Ernie Ball Super Slinky.
Les Paul Special and Ibanez Semi-hollow have 10-46 Regular Slinky.

I think I'm going to put 12-56 custom gauges on the Les Paul so I can play C standard. Even D standard is waaaay too out of tune with the 10s.

This really depends on the guitar and what it/she/he sings best with.

Usually this is 9-42 or 10-46. I have guitars where 10s feel like 9s, and others where 10s feel like 11s.

My latest treat has been 10-38 (Fender Voodoo Child) which seems more tonally balanced on my #1 Strat. There is a lot of discussion about tension balancing across a set, but I hardly see any talk about tonal balance across sets. I (objectively) find that most sets are too bass heavy with thicker and thicker lower strings, when most of the (objectively) great guitar tone comes out of the mids.

So uhh, let's see it fig!
You got it!

For a long time I used 10s exclusively.
Lately I've been going lighter gauges, and my 25.5" scale guitars have 9s, 9-46s and 9.5s. I can't decide on one, so it's a mix.
My 24.75" scale guitar still has 10s.
Acoustic has 11s.

@SillyOctpuss did you try this? How did it go?
No not yet. Our drummers wife was pregnant and went into labour a few weeks early so we haven't gotten together yet. It's their first and he's been staying close to home because the birth was so early. Mum and baby boy seem to be doing well though so all is good.

Back to strings I've moved from 10s to 11s on my strat now after playing my tele for a few weeks. I'm loving it and will be trying a set on my prs when it needs a change.

Woof this was my life earlier this year. Glad to hear they're well.

Coincidentally, I think I'm gonna put 11s on my tele when I get a chance to restring it

I only put 11s on mine because it sounded a bit rattly with 10s on. Now I'm used to the 11s on my tele the strat felt a little weird. I've had 11s on the strat for a few days now and I'm genuinely preferring it. Hopefully it's fine on my prs too then I can go back to only buying one gauge of strings.

Not exactly about gauge per se but I'm building up a cart on a strings order and want to try some other brands of 6 string jazz flats - I love d'addario chromes but they're the only ones I've tried - anyone have suggestions? Probably going to snag at least a pack of La Bellas. I'd like to stay in 10s or 11s unless I'm actually completely missing out by not using heavier flats.
