When do you use tantalum caps and why?

I use them anywhere the values are 22uf or lower. More than that and they tend to get expensive and large I prefer them over mini electros in low-profile builds.

I use them in the signal path instead of electros. I do this because I have no idea what I'm doing and I read from people I consider smarter than myself that it's a good idea because of potential noise.
Tantalum is also a conflict metal, if that's the kind of thing you're concerned about. Tayda sells AVX brand tant caps, however, and they are conflict free. Just a heads up that you may want to look in to where you're getting them.

When using tants, be sure of their +/- orientation and that you have installed them in/with the correct polarity.

Gain filters, TS tone caps, not in the signal path because they tend to sound both dark and brittle at the same time.

Some people prefer Tants to Electrolytics in the audio path; largest box-film I have are 2u2 so anything bigger than that in the audio I go with Tant. They don’t sound brittle to my ears.Tants also allow for cramming mods into tight builds, such as my Filigree Siberian Hamster pictured above.

Alright ... I'll put Tantalum caps of electrolytic values in my shopping in my next Tayda order. Thanks for the insights!
