It’s ok but has a wierd opaque moderating culture where suddenly people disappear
Ah yeah, not a huge fan. I’ve been a member there for maybe 5 years, but I’ve probably commented less than 20 times. It’s alright, but definitely has a weird vibe to the mod team.

Nathan at SushiboxFX also was suspended.
This sounds entertaining as well… now I’m really curious about how easy it is to get booted from there.

So I’m going to read between the lines here… it’s a bunch of cry baby bass players?

Probably the crazy expensive commercial user fee thing they rolled out. Nathan mentioned it on the group call a while back. $5k(?) a year or something stupid.

Some, yes, some decent folk too. Every time I find myself looking at the "other forum" I find posts by @Feral Feline 🤣 I don't find reading talkbass opinions as useful as just building the pedal I'd be looking up so I don't hang out there much anymore. Drake 17082025151439.jpg

No it’s weird, it’s like everyone chats and it’s ok, somethings utterly off topic but it’s ok. It’s got a good lot of opinions and expertise about stuff, some utter obsessives about things enabling their friends, folk who collect lots of the same brand showing off 12 Sadowsky or 83 Broughton pedals or whatever - but it’s mostly ok….
And then you’re reading something from a while back and go “oh xx I used to like reading his stuff … oh he’s banned” - no warnings, no discussions just in the back of a van by ICE, held without charge or representation or access to my embassy and never heard of again…

See that last sentence would probably trigger a ban on there…

I dunno, I’m British, I hang on basschat which is way more chilled.

But I did used to own a JohnK designed pedal

For the record I do think all bass players are cry babies ( some of you guys are alright 🤣) it just sounded like that was a forum of “cry baby” bass players

Hopefully you're finding a few of my more intelligent, level-headed, balanced and helpful posts...

I occasionally come across my old posts there that ... let's just say I posted a LOT of :poop:. Hmmm, no different than here.

Anyway, there was a period where people were being banned left-right-centre, and I saw that often the people being banned were the victims of an ... "escalation", not the perpetrators — that's when I stopped hanging out there regularly. It got fugly.

It's a privately held company/website, so not obligated to uphold things valued in most modern societies such as freedom of speech; no mediation, no innocence until proven guilty...there is no recourse — that banned hammer done did beat the band, and now I see it continues to do so — It remains fugly.

I'll probably be banned there for typing the above here. 🤷‍♂️

Probably one of my worst decisions ever was to keep one user name for all forums. 😹

I mean without wanting to start a conversation about online safety bills in UK and EU and how the rest of the world understands freedom of speech - I don't think it's that. I think of forums like a Pub (or bar for you guys in US) - you can go in and have freedom to speak and drink - but at the same time it's the publicans house and he/she can ask you to leave if they want

some things should get ppl kicked out, I'm sure there's some things we could do on here and Robert would think "my life is easier without these numpties on my forum"* - and that would be ok! - I think the problem with Talkbass is the opacity of it, the one strike and you're out, and the lack of recourse to appeal etc.

* though for clarity @Robert the "don't forget the bass players" campaign is designed to encourage you and positively lift you up reminding you of all the joy your PCBs bring the bass playing brethren - not annoy you - but while we're here .... how's that Doom2 pcb going, I won't even ask for a build doc!?

It’s only sudden from the outside; the Doomed nearly all get a few strikes first, but civilians often don’t get to see that. A lot of commercial users game the system hard too, I certainly did that myself at times when I was under the Commercial User Policy constraints. It’s such a natural thing to want to share your latest greatest thing, but it’s just not allowed unless someone asks first, or you pay to do so. Yet a few of us were/are allowed to do build blogs for years without getting a crotch whack, go figure.

There is some stiff competition here. i just got done reviewing the entries and the prize is going to @johnk_10 with his incredible blackbeard entry. it looks great, the sound clip was great, and the self etched board and relay bypass were really cool and well executed.
As outlined in the contest rules, @johnk_10 will receive his prize at the close of the player haters ball contest provided he doesn't disqualify himself. Congrats!

Congrats, johnk_10! I remember your work over at FSB. I built one of your 360s with a tilt control and used your bypass design in a few builds. Good to see you still going at it! Thanks, Harry for the contest. Had a great time learning and building.
