The Fixer

Well, I won a decent scratch lotto ticket tonight and decided to give the guys over at Browne Amplification some well deserved cash and ordered the real thing, 15% off - BlackFriday deal.

I can count commercial pedal purchases on one hand over the past many years, (and only have one left that I havn't sold off) but I really like what they did with the Protien and this little box seems so very useful taking care of the buffer and dealing with my volumn jump when I plug my 335 in vs my Jazzmaster. I will open it up, always do, but I assume its all smd components.

Sorry dudes. I took the back panel off, despite one of the four screws being over sunk into the aluminum, to the point I almost gnarled up the screw itself (I thought they loctited it for a minute… not sure if that was on purpose to keep people out or just an assembly flaw, and needless to say it’s just a blank green pcb all the components are mounted topside and my guess is there’s another board they are mounted to because the only through holes I see are for the jacks, or it’s all SMD which is more likely. No visible trace lines on the back just solid green. I’m not going to fully disassemble it. But I will say there are several grungy finger prints on the back board. The dc jack is board mounted and a little off kilter but not enough to cause issues. First time I’ve seen a commercial pedal not spic and span clean inside.

The outside is perfection though and that’s what counts right. Sounds great too. Does the job, no squeal on the Black eye. Maintains crispy high end throughout the chain. Boost is nice and non colored. And it looks nice. I dig it. I know we can make one for next to nothing but I like to support dudes doing cool stuff. And as I’ve said they did an amazing job on the blue side of the protien, hands down my favorite Blues Breaker version. I’ll keep it for now. :)

I expected that'd what you'd find considering where the jacks are located depth-wise.

No big deal but thanks for making the attempt. This is the sort of thing I don't really feel like I need the original to come up with something that does a similar job.

I do have one question, do you hear any relays clicking when you press the two footswitches?

Yes. Same sound as the Cowpoker.

I would be ok letting it visit you for a few weeks if you wanted, shoot me a msg.

I think every pedal should go out into the world for a trip at some point in it's life. How will it explore the world and learn about other cultures if it's always on your board? Maybe it will learn some new tricks and get a new outlook on life. That's why I run a small retreat for pedals where owners can send them to learn to be on their own. Shoot me a message if you're interested in changing one of your pedals' outlook on life.

I always thought a pedal trade thread was a good idea. You are right they deserve to see the world.

Update: As with every commercial pedal I have purchased the last few years this one will be put on reverb as well. Has no purpose since wrapping up the kliche buffer PPCB and having found my end all clean tone without the fixer in line. I will never learn.
