The Powder Room

I have a sparkle here now but didn't want to waste it until I get a better gun or at least the ground rod.

My adhesion was terrible during my first two tests, but I had no ground, so we'll see.

I'm skeptical about the ground rod but I'm not an expert when it comes to static charges. What do you think @temol?

Alllriiiight, now I'm not so afraid of this learning process... I'll just call them "blemishes" and force you to buy them all in a package.
I would 100% buy enclosures done in random colors from when you’re in between switching over colors or whatever. Some sort of “blemish blind box” or whatever where it’s all the janky, contaminated boxes you mess up should that happen.

Nice!
You can always convert this into ice cream trailer :)

Clean your gun outside the trailer, especially if you're goigng to use compressed air to blow the powrder off the gun.
In my powder coating room I'd like to have fans with filters to keep the powder from covering every, I repeat, every surface.
I have a shop vacuum attached to the back of my powdercoating booth. I tried the fan/filter setup, but I was still getting too much overspray blasted all over my wife's car. I have to clean the filter on the shop vac more than I used to, but it's a much cleaner solution for my setup.

Sure. As a matter of fact, when it gets closer to time we'll have a color request thread.

Personally I want transparent copper.

I've found the translucent finishes to be shockingly easy to apply, I have a handful of them I used to do. I actually did a translucent red finish on my drumset hardware, turned out pretty nice.

I do my powdercoating in my garage so I haven't had to worry about a grounding rod, but the outlets in the garage are of course properly grounded. I had adhesion trouble fairly frequently with my harbor freight gun. I'm not going to say you need to throw money at the problem, but the Redline gun is soooo niiiiceeeee

I get it. It's just a drag for us DIY folks since that name has a history of being available to us.

I'm stoked at the prospect of dual shot finishes (e.g., the pearlescent and sparkle effects).
I've always loved the look of dual shot finishes, I haven't been brave enough to try them myself yet. Maybe one of these days.

The Harbor Freight gun was just to get my feet wet, I already had here it so I figured I'd give it a shot.

It worked... OK.... but I'd say at least 90% of my powder just blew right past the enclosure and didn't stick at all. It's almost like the enclosure was repelling it. :ROFLMAO:

I fully intend to get a better gun. I was looking at the Redline and one other brand (not Eastwood), but since you've put in a good word for the Redline that's good enough for me.

I went to our local Habitat for Humanity and Goodwill to see if I could find an old household oven for a reasonable price... They wanted about the same as a new one, except theirs had years of food grease caked on the inside. I think I'll pass.

I'm skeptical about the ground rod but I'm not an expert when it comes to static charges.
I don't use grounding rod and I rarely have problems with powder adhesion. I use aligator clip on a wire that's connected to the HV unit.
I make sure there's good connection between the hook and the part I'm going to cook. I scrape the hook every 3-4 uses - it's piece of copper and oxidizes with time. Same with the hooks that go to the oven with a powder coated part. I scrape those every time.
My observation - certain types of powder stick like crazy, some not so good. Sometimes it requires a bit of time before powder "clicks" and starts to stick properly.
I have similar gun to this

This thread definitely has my attention. Any chance of offering predrilled? Drilling is my least favorite part of the process so I pay tayda for it these days if I can.

I'm working on some things... I don't want to make too many big promises just yet, but it's certainly not out of the question.

More than likely, at least to get started, there might be pre-drilled enclosures offered for the various PedalPCB projects. At this point I'm not sure if I can handle the workload of fully customized drilling, but like I said, let's see how things play out. :)
