CONTEST
I got some gravel today. It doesn't look like much but it's11.5 tons in weight, 20 to 40mm sized schist so the truck driver said. Will take me a few days (ahem...) with wheelbarrow and shovel to spread around house ...

I feel your pain. When my wife and we’re just married, we had just enough money to buy the stone for the driveway. However, we did not have enough money for a wheelbarrow! We had to use a utility trash can to cart all that stone into place. It was terribly hard, but now it is a good memory and gave us perspective.

I’ve been on the job hunt for the last 3 weeks. I’m a chef and the previous restaurant I was working at closed down. I landed one part time gig at a small dive bar with great food in my neighborhood. I’ve got interviews with some high volume restaurants in downtown Chicago this afternoon and tomorrow. And I’ve got a “stage” on Wednesday at a very nice bar in a high rise downtown. In the restaurant biz a “stage” is where you go work in the kitchen for a day to see if you can handle it and also to see if you like working in that kitchen. I’m confident I will get the high-rise job on Wednesday but wish me luck anyways. I’m planning on working two or maybe three jobs for a few months so I can buy some new amps and guitars and a house.
Inerview #1 today was a dudd. Part of the salary was a percentage of restaurant profit.... buuuutttttt thats only if the restaurant hits certain numbers (labor, food cost, no problem) however they included repair and maintenance under the umbrella of things that affect said bonus. I told them that wasnt a very fair business practice and very unappealing to me as the new chef. What if I walk into a shit show that needs new everything... I'm never getting a bonus. To which the HR person responded, "well it's for like, if a storm comes and breaks a window...." hahaha GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE! I didnt say that but I explained in very nice terms how they are now very near the bottom of my list of potential employers.

Lol lol lol there’s always something needs fixing.

I assembled PCs at a computer shop back when Windows was first released. I wasn't an actual employee...I had befriended the owner whose shop was across the parking lot from our offices and he was slammed with orders from the same wave that swept the US. I'd guess I put together at least a hundred i386s that summer. You might recall Microsoft included a music video with the installation...Weezer-Buddy Holly. I used that on each build to test AV function. Talk about an earworm!
When I discovered that music video it blew my mind! I was just a 12 year-old kid, never heard that song before... loved it instantly

When "nobody wants to work anymore" becomes "none of my employees want to contribute to repair bills anymore."

Slow going… first (nearly all black) image is the stone with a former student’s work on it. I’ve spend the past 2 hours grinding it down and I’ve finally gotten it mostly clear, but I still have a faint ghost on the stone, so it’ll probably be a few more passes. After that I’ll have a few hours of work cut out for me in polishing it with progressively higher grits. My forearms are on fire and I’m sure my back will be killing me tomorrow morning

About the time I was meeting/marrying my wife, I was working prep for a couple of chefs...Joules and Bach (sounds like a classical duet). I learned a TON about food but their idea of compensation was less palatable, thus ending my food service phase [in his best Dustin Hoffman / Little Big Man voice].

I hope your search is short and rewarding, (y)

I’m not sure what all that is, but good job man. You got it all done, it sure wasn’t easy.

Huffing wildwire smoke, same as for way too much of this summer. It's the suxxors.
Shortly before Covid 19 hit the world, this happened in Australia. For context, I live in middle burbs of a very large city, a long way from the bush. Where I live was covered by choking smoke for weeks, and visibility was down to about 20 meters at times.

Given what the northern hemisphere just went through, I'm expecting something similar this summer, which is rapidly approaching.
