This is v2.0 of the Timbre Man, circuit courtesy of @HamishR and @Chuck D. Bones. HamishR's thread, Chuck's Thread, my v1.0 build.
This is, loosely speaking, a Timmy with a mid boost. It essentially has all the standard Timmy-isms, but gives more control over the mids. I didn't have time to give it a full workout, but it does similar things as my recent xTORTION-10 and Enchanter builds. The Enchanter is obviously a close cousin (or maybe "parent" is a better analogy), given the circuit lineage.
I've been wanting to revisit this circuit for a while, given that I sold my original Timbre Man a while ago. The older one was also based on Chuck's earlier schematic, this v2.0 is based on the latest. The custom PCB also has all my current overbuilt conventions: p-mos reverse polarity protection, ferrite on the PSU, aluminum polymer PSU decoupling cap, 1mm cycle rated mushroom head switch, integrated buffered mcu-based electrical bypass, hot melt glue for wire strain relief.
Everything worked on first power-up, which is always a treat.
This is my first completed build where I used SprayMax 2k as a clear coat, credit to @OD is Glorious for turning me on to this stuff. This is basically two-part epoxy in aerosol form. It's expensive, around $30 (USD) per can, and once you start using it, you have around 24 (some say 48) hours to use it all. So ideally you batch up a bunch of enclosures for coating all at once. This is the first of 12 that I did. I got seven or eight coats (lost count) using the matte version. @OD is Glorious said he gets less coverage with the gloss version; I haven't tried that yet. I used matte because I was worried about the gloss being too shiny, and having reflection issues under stage lighting or sunlight. But I'll probably try gloss next time, as the matte is borderline dull.
I don't know how well the pictures here show it, but I took pics next to my recent Enchanter (custom Timmy) build, which uses the same Tayda cream enclosure. The Enchanter was coated with the Sunnyscopa Top Coat. The Timbre Man is noticeably more muted in comparison. I actually kind of like it on this color. I also used it on a violet enclosure from StompBoxParts, and the muting effect also worked well there. But the other 10 enclosures I did were all bare aluminum, and I think they look a bit dull with the matte finish.
But the main thing is, if this stuff is half as rugged as claimed, then it's deliciously overkill for a pedal, which I find very satisfying. I like to say, anything worth building is worth overbuilding.
As always, I have spare PCBs, shoot me a PM if you'd like one.
