I’ve tried so many transistors I don’t know what’s best. I have OC 84OC 82OC 71 AC 113 AC 125 AC 128 a bunch of SB 177 or something. I just don’t know they’re all different. I don’t know what the right gain in the right leakage is for this thing.

I'm assuming you're pondering the right transistor for Q3?

the front end is essentially a MkIII tone bender.


here's some good advice on the MkIII:

note: the bias control pot will affect Q3 idle bias voltage, so i guess it's probably best to have it set in the centre when measuring/assessing idle bias voltages.
i wouldn't suggest that you need to follow this advice exactly, but it's a good indicator, at least.
also - use your ears, if it sounds good - it is good.

Is that the Phobos ? Aionfx documents are A+ I didn’t know the zonk was so close to these tones benders … I never had problems like this with the numerous tone benders I have made…

yep, aionfx docs are great for those little bits of extra info.

as discussed on your zonk thread, zonk = MkI tonebender.
(mkI, mkII, mkIII are all quite different from each other, with mkI being the worst in every way)

hFE=123 at Ic=5.00mA
Vbe=0.223V at Ib=5.00mA
VceSat=0.016V at Ic=5.0mA and Ib=1.00mA
IcLeak=0.266mA
