Two Sticks Q1-Q3 hfe?

Hello to all,
I’m about done with the Two Sticks of Derm, just gotta place the 2N3904’s. I noticed I have quite a range of hfe (between low 200’s & mid 600’s) between them dozen or so 2N3904’s I have. What range should I be looking for? Also, should all three be the same, or vary?

don't pass up a chance to try a few things out and see what you like the best.

if you used sockets, pick your two highest HFE transistors and the one with the lowest HFE. then try three configurations, switching the low HFE around to try it in each of the three positions. see if you can hear a difference in the amount of fuzz and in the output volume go with the configuration you like the best.

if you do hear significant differences in those configurations and want to try some more ...

take the two lowest HFE and one high, and repeat the process to see if you like that better.
