What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

SSM221 won the bake off. Difference with TI chip is briefly demonstrated in the video. ( TI - red header, AD - yellow ) Running a speaker directly off of the amp board as a function test.

A thing learned from the Sustainiac: audio comes in using same ground as power, "never again" to be involved ( there is a parallel resistor and cap in the agc opamp loop that does connect to the input/power ground). The rest of the circuit uses reference voltage as audio ground. Kinda like simulating a bipolar power supply as far as the audio is concerned.

In full disclosure, I f'd one of them up. When I checked it for continuity I had nothing on pin 8. I went to try to fix it and in the process destroyed the pin 8 leg. I mean it was completely gone! I still have no idea what happened.

I wound up subbing an OPA2134A in its place. The compressor is fantastic! Might be the best compressor I've built yet but still running it through its paces.
I’m a huge fan of the Median. I’ve built and bought a ton of compressors and the Median has stayed on my board for longer than any of them. Super versatile, low noise floor, and it does it better than all the others I’ve tried. I recently ordered a second board of it so I can have one near the front of my chain and another near the end because I like what it can do in both places!

Sorting through 3 pounds of GE/Erickson service parts I grabbed for $15 off eBay. Got about a hundred moto jellybean transistors and a few 150-250 hfe house number PNP Germs. So, not a total wash but not a gold mine. Anyone want a bunch of power transistors?

I'm running it at the end of my chain. I have a General Tso that's always on at the front. I thought I was the only one (not named Gilmour) that ran two compressors:)

Just built my first pedal of the year. Damn it’s been a crazy one. Dual compressor for a friend. He didn’t want any graphics so I threw on some labels temporarily. Inside’s kind of a mess since I only had a few hours to do this today.

Did you build it to Dyna Comp specs? How's the noise? I bet it's pretty noisy with both sides on. I love the Aurora except for the noise floor.

Ya, it’s definitely pretty noisy with both on at the same time. I warned him that it would most likely be the case, but he said go for it. It can be tamed a little bit by adjusting the volume on one and adjusting the treble switch, but it’s still there. He said he’s got a certain application for it in his studio, so I guess he knows what he’s doing.

As for the build- I stuck with the Aion’s build and will maybe swap it over if my friend wants to try something different with it.

FWIW, the Chase Bliss Clean (which is very quiet) apparently also had noise issues during development, but they implemented some sort "Emphasis filters for cassette-style noise reduction" which helped. I wonder if anyone has tried to do something similar in the DIY space? Or is it not worth the effort and possibly big component count?

Before I started DIYing pedals, I used to run my Diamond Bass comp at the front of the pedal chain and my Cali76 at the end.
Then I got into DIY, yanked my chain, and now the only thing I run is my mouth.

SURE! Decaf... :coffee:
MAY AS WELL have de-alcoholised beer/wine/liquor while you're at it. 🍺🍷🥃
WHY STOP THERE? Let's have THC-free hemp-cigarettes... 🚬
NO, WAIT, EVEN BETTER! A clean-blend at the beginning of your pedalboard, with the INTERNAL BLEND-TRIMMER set to fully clean, the clean that is the SOLE output of the entire pedalboard... 🎛️🔇

@Fama — I'm guessing there's already some emphasis/de-emphasis circuits in the DIY space, since some of the circs are copies of commercial pedals... There must be some. Delays, comps...

Totally worth the extra parts-count and space, IMO.

Will it keep my tone transparent and clear enough without too much of parallel squish? How it affects lo/hi mids? And please be honest, what about phase issues?
