What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Jumped on the Fuzz Explorer at Huntington Audio before the sell out the batch.
I have another Fuzz Face (Twin Face) to build, and want to add a tone bender. Lots of Soviet transistors to use, and this will be a whole lot easier for dialing in the component specs.

The bass tech for a band that has been my favorite for 20+ years emailed me today and said the band's bassist is interested in trying out a couple of my pedals for his new touring board. I said I will absolutely send him whatever he wants, and mentioned that I love the band. The tech then replied that the guitarist would love to try some things as well if there was anything else I wanted to send.

So now I have 9 pedals on the workbench that I will be finishing up this weekend to send them. I don't care if nothing happens long term and I lose money on this, my favorite band playing my pedals has been a literal dream of mine since I started doing this.

You better be prepared for the inevitable influx of orders once the teaming-masses see what's on the band's boards — I'm thinking they must be fairly well known if the band has it's own bass tech...

Post a pic and name-drop when you get a chance.

Anybody’s guess is as good as mine. At least they provided the schematic inside the pedal.

Can't even hazard a guess...

Thanks for the Clean & Clear schematic shot. Adding it to my collection...

GOTA has a parts list floating around the forum for turning the PPCB ShamWah into an 846:

Hopefully this may be of some interest to you or benefit someone else.

i have lost the plot.

somehow got lucky and had it running with minimal trouble.

there was no need to do this, but i guess it saves tampering with my original unit for some mod expeditions…
...no mods yet.
but tonight i captured a baseline demo of the stock circuit (+/- an SD-1 cos it’s good)

breadboarded with LF353 & TL072 opamps, J201 input buffer. (output buffer skipped, with A100K output volume pot - per GCI MT-2 schematic - otherwise completely stock per Boss schematic, with 1N4148 clipping diode pair)

It's definitely a very well-known band. I don't know if I'm allowed to publicly name-drop yet, but I'll find out.

I figured as much, Nathan — it'll be obvious when pics start showing up online or a rig-rundown etc... I figure it's fair-game by then and I'm more likely to see it here as I might miss it out in the wilds of the Interwebs.

update:

i’m a doofus and misplaced the clipping diodes when i was trying out red leds (not much difference), so that whole demo was opamp distortion.

there, a mod - no clipping diodes.

with the gain set at 10o’clock, it doesn’t really sound that different on a glance, but on closer inspection, it does affect the EQ (limited), overall less scooped, it’s louder, the distortion is a bit looser, it’s less smooth, and the crunch has a unique character you don’t get with 4148 clipping diodes.
i’d say it’s worth exploring as a mod.

I did the "paper and adhesive plastic" thing I mentioned a while back, it looks a bit crummy up close (as was expected), but it's fine from a little further away, and the details of the graphic do show up much better (although it's still a bit dark).

Pics don't necessarily do it justice, because the sun has forsaken my land for the year already, but then that's kinda how it looks for the next ~4 months anyway.

Aaand it's boxed, cue shitty attemps at taking photos in the dark!

I literally thought "hey that was the easiest off-board wiring ever!" while boxing it, and then stumbled into the same issue VanWhy reported here https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/effects-layouts-sasquatch-ii.21580/ twice. O1 and O2 pads need to be flipped, but the description page said "Fuzz pads", when they are actually the octave pads... so I did three surgeries, switching F1 and F2, switching them back, and switching O1 and O2 around. But it turned out ok in the end.

For Q6-Q7 it says to use NPN germanium transistors around 200hFE, I first tried some AC175's, but they had way too much leakage I guess. I tried 2N2222's just to verify it works ok, and wasn't blown away. Switched Q6 to a 2N3904 and it was better. In the end I went with (I think) an AC187-VI (or VII) in Q6, which had very low leakage, and still the 2N2222 in Q7. It's a bit... soft? But pleasant sounding, and as a bonus the germanium got rid of the background hiss (but is otherwise not really gated, or just very, very slightly). Octave is kinda meh, it's a bit thin sounding, but for leads or rhythm using the neck pickup it could be cool.

Nice pedal, but it's a disgrace he's still selling the old revision boards (well I bought mine 11/2024, so at least back then) with not as much as even a permanent marker scribble to remind you that there's an issue with it or anything in the build docs - only a mention on the product page.

Detachable amp "head" of my combo almost done. Thank god for covid, and the extra spare time at home messing with this curve that I wanted, with intense muscle pains and a dish towel for a handkerchief to catch all the nasal leakage, because it's not all fun. Hard to sit still in a bedroom that has all my work screaming at me (finish me! finish me!). Anyway, kerf bending is an absolute pain when not bending lengthwise. Manual cuts and a bit of soaking in hot water, and the bending itself spread over two days (initial bend, then the most outward kerfings (?) which were stubborn as hell).. Just needs a lid and some finishing touches.

The workbench is currently the art and print bench. My kid somehow managed to break two knobs and the footswitch on a mini Tubescreamer. So I'm building the...whatever this is. Yes, that's comic papyrus because it ain't easy being, again, whatever this is. mean green scream machine-01.png

my brother started to learn guitar, so for Christmas I built up a simple pedal board for him IMG_2845.jpeg
Wanted to keep it simple for him minimal number of knobs, he plays acoustic for now, small stone chorus, AD9 delay and a digital Amazon reverb, I couldn’t build a reverb for $36(which sounds much better than I thought for the price point. ) so we will see if this is enough to get him hooked.
