What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

If alpha pots work in pedals why wouldn't they work in guitars?
Just measure the value if it's important to you.
Do you guys only use expensive pots? Do you measure them?
The regular alpha 16mm pots as well as the Tayda branded ones are just a bit less robust, and they also tend to be less smooth to turn in my experience, having areas of higher friction, and areas of mid-to-lower friction along its rotation. 24mm alpha pots and alpha push-pull pots tend to be more consistent throughout the travel, so I have no problem using them, though I’ve largely switched to (unfortunately a fair bit more expensive) CTS push-pulls in anything where I have enough space to fit it, since the switching mechanism in the CTS pots is much smoother and much less prone to failure.

Can anyone tell me if the PTB wiring would work without the volume pot? Or is that path to ground required for the bass cut to function?

What’s on my workbench? A whole lot of mess, since I took down the crappy old angle-iron shelf next to the workbench, and built an L-shaped addition so there’s room for the 3D printer where the component drawers currently are. Excuse the gap near the back— the cut edge of the plywood mounted to the wall is just a bit wonky, and it’ll be getting a quick molding job to hide the gap since I can’t afford more plywood 😅

Gonna be moving everything around tomorrow so I can finish up a pedal build before people come over in the evening, since it’s already stamped to say 2022 and I’d hate to be a liar.

That is an enviable amount of work space you've got there

Definitely feel lucky to have access to such a space. It’s a bit difficult to access because it’s the back room of the basement, behind the laundry, and it’s the room where all of the seasonal decorations are kept boxed up (it’s also between the oil tank and the water heater, so I get to hear a duo of odd whale noises whenever hot water is running or the heat is on lol), but once you get to it, it’s a pretty cosy space.

The main portion of the workbench is the re-topped frame of the workbench my dad and I built when I was around 4 years old, so even though it’s not up to the fine-woodworking standards I’ve come to hold myself to, it’s too sentimental to rebuild altogether. Wound up building the extension the exact same way (but also anchored it into the concrete) because it would be kinda silly to have a really fancy looking over-engineered addition to a simple 2x4-frame setup.

Haven’t figured out the exact layout everything will have, but the addition will allow for the old Mac desktop, my sister’s Cricut, and the 3D printer my dad and I recently went splitzies on, plus maybe a small laser printer from FB marketplace once I have time to make the shelf underneath. I’ve been the only one using the workbench space for the past few years since my dad stopped using it once we built a proper workbench (narrower, but also a more optimal height for working) in the garage 6 or so years ago, so the goal is to make it not only a more efficient workspace for myself, but to turn it into a multifunctional space that all of the makers in the house can benefit from while also helping to organize the clutter stored back in that room better.

This is a compact synth that I plan to use for CV sequenced basslines.
Doing these "kit" builds with all the components pre-picked makes me feel like a king- a spoiled damn king!

Buying kits now feels like you're paying a king's ransom too 🥶😂

For guitar pedals, yeah- I wouldn't buy a kit :ROFLMAO:

Components for this synth stuff can get a little weird though- I really don't think I would've $aved much by sourcing my own components after shipping costs from multiple vendors. I feel like I got a good deal during SynthCube's Black Friday thing.
