What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

It's winter. Winter is long, so it's time for some R&D :) Hmm, I wonder what happens if I daisy-chain a bunch of my gadgets...

Treble Boost -> (should have inserted my one-knob compressor here but forgot) -> Distortion section from the Rock Engine ->Tunable low pass filter

Basically the Rockman signal chain on Distortion, but done mostly with alternate designs of the various sections. Sounds promising already, and I haven't put the compressor in yet -- which is a big part of the overall sound and feel. We'll see how it all turns out.

If it makes you feel any better I did the same thing last week on my own damned layout.... Seriously, by now you'd think I'd know which side the pots and switches go on.
yeah, I think it does!

I just got the 3PDT removed. All four switches seemed to work when I tested for continuity. Some of the pads partially lifted, but none came all the way off. Hoping I can salvage this!

Something different. I‘m on this for a few weeks now. Tube Town JC18

Almost finished, needs rubber feet and maybe a new tolex job on front and back. First time amp and Tolex :ROFLMAO:
Many lessons learned..

I highly recommend tube-town kits!!

That is fucking hot :)

Have you considered the white Marshall knobs? They are cheap on Tayda.

Do they make a white body gold cap Marshall knob? Because that would be over the top on your build.

I thought you were a Godot!

Now the bitter reality sinks in,
with the realisation you are only a demi-Godot.

Still waiting…

… For myself to solder a switch to the wrong side. It’s not “if…” it’s “when” as I know it will happen.

Waiting … it is coming …

Trek is so ubiquitous and broad-coverage that it's easy to find something you like. I'm not a fan of their highest- or lowest-end offerings but their midrange is super solid.

Bikes and parts have gotten super expensive, and further good luck to the poor sods (me) who live in Canada. I used to tell people that ~$5k is the point of diminishing returns for most enthusiasts, but I don't think that's true anymore. Local tech told me recently that "things have gotten to the point that a bike wearing Ultegra is $8k" which in retrospect seems unimaginable. I'm in more than $3k on a custom build plan that will carry 105, so I guess it's true.

This is the $14k Trek Madone I referenced. For that price I would expect Shimano Dura Ace and not Ultegra like it has installed.

I hear you. In their defense, it is Ultegra Di2, and for some time now Ultegra has been most of the performance DA for much less (i.e., if you're not a pro racer, there's effectively no difference) but I agree... I remember when a bike worth $10k was pulled straight from under the ass of a pro rider and there was nowhere "up" to go...

FA — for that kinda cutter, the DuraAss should be gold-plated and hand-engraved ala 1970s custom bikes.

(Full disclosure: I worked at a Trek dealer for some time.)

Daaammmnnn, how much does a fucking car cost if bikes are $15k. Guess I will just keep walking everywhere. Fuck all tgat
I really like to ride my bike and building them up is really fun to do. That said, cycling is an elitist sport and the cost of bicycles for the technology involved is extremely marked up compared to motorcycles and the bang for the buck you get with them.

For $15K I'd go hunting for a K-Swapped Honda Fit or a 2003 Civic SI upgraded to the hilt than spend that on a bike.

I guess the other thing to keep in mind is the people riding these expensive bikes are sponsored. Apologies, I derailed this thread enough!

While it's true that bicycles are and have gotten stupidly expensive, there's a good rationale for their price in comparison to motorcycles or cars; it's that for $15k (these days, I guess) you can get a genuinely top-of-the-line bicycle with state of the art components that are exactly what is being used at the top level of competition, which is absolutely not the case with cars or motorcycles. Not to say that you can't get good bang-for-buck on motorcycles or cars for that kind of money, but going to the same quality tier in either of those areas is going be way, way more expensive.
I think that technology in bike parts has also trickled down a lot more in tandem with the general price hike. Manufacturers have gotten a bit wiser these days to the fact that most people buying their bikes and parts aren't in a pro peloton (gasp) and are adjusting accordingly. SRAM's new bottom-rung Apex AXS is so good that it is an extremely compelling reason to never upgrade to the higher-tier groupsets - I'm sure they lock you out of 2x until Rival on purpose. Shimano Tiagra comes with hydraulic brakes now. I could go on. But yes, we have derailed this thread enough :ROFLMAO:

The impedance switch has one of these on the back and I have a lot of the here but I want large knobs. I like them big.
