What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

another chill monday night with the ProtoBoard Micro

i now understand the underwhelming reports regarding the lizard queen.
the fuzz is cool i guess. but the octave is barely there. even tried matching the 2N2222A + 2N3906 for close/equal gains - both around 230 Hfe - but not sure this really helped.
Like many of the Escobedo circuits it's.... fine. The best ones to me are the total weirdos like the ugly face, Bronx cheer, or jinx. Even the octup blender has a better octave. I got a free one from moonn and I keep wanting to box it and gift it out but I don't know if it deserves it.

not aware of any of these, might have a squizz...

:ROFLMAO: i feel that.
and this is why i breadboard things now (instead of committing to a vero build that never gets boxed lol)

Were I to do it over again, I'd get the shorter height ones. But all the same, go for the ones from Stomp Box Parts. Gave the ones I bought to a friend.

I tried it at NAMM right after it came out, figured I had to hear it because of all the hype. It was fine.

This is why I've been slowly harvesting parts from my old lizard queen build 😂

Getting the cab ready for the chassis on my home brew 5F6-A and I realized I failed to drill the chassis mount and handle mount holes before finishing the cab. Doh. Worse, the chassis has like five wires left to solder and it's testing time, so it weighs like a zillion pounds so I can't just lay it on top and scope out where to put the holes.

Double doh

Decided to mock up exactly where to put the holes so they're in the right spot vertically and horizontally and exactly 18 7/8" apart. I already did a blue print of the entire chassis, so I just grabbed a copy and flopped that into place so I could see how everything aligns virtually.

Tape is applied, the spots marked and double, triple checked. Ready to drill. Tomorrow. I'm tired.

I finally made it to the workbench (and workbench thread) with my GT120 project.

I finished up the turret board layouts this weekend, cut and drilled the G10, installed the turrets.

I’m pretty happy with where everything is except I still cannot find a place for the hum pot for the preamp heaters. It might just end up soldered to some terminal strip with bus wire. I have plenty of room left under the main board, just not a lot of space that would make it accessible for adjustment.

Anyway, I may end up putting one more terminal strip or small turret board for a couple of varistors mean to protect the OT, but I should be done drilling.

I’m going to start populating the boards this week, and wire as much of the chassis as I can with out the transformers since they weigh a fuck ton.

I also need to finalize what I am doing the for the face plate. I bought a vinyl cutter, so I am using that, but I am unsure if I’ll apply the art directly to the steel face plate or some 1/16” PVC sheet.

Onboard preamp install in progress on my alternate body project:

That's coming along nicely, quite fetching. Wood knobs, wood pup-covers, cool grains, no fret-lines ... 😻
AND an XLR jack.

HEY!

You are probably THE person to ask, this:

Do you happen to know of any right-angle L-shaped XLR male to female adapters?

I want to plug one into my Radial Pzed-Pre and leave it in there — if I manage to gig again, the sound-engineer can plug in without me having to rip by board apart,

My Google-Fu shows many off brand options, Redco sells at least one and could probably tell you if they're junk or not.

When I was still a sound provider I made up a bunch of different adapter cables for things like this, as I prefer not to hang too much weight right on equipment inputs. If you used that approach you could have bomber strain relief...;)
