What does everyone do for a living?

Epic, a four letter word. That is the system I convert data into. Sometimes I'd rather be back making lab analyzers talk to computers. Yeah, I been in the medical field since `96 and I can confirm, some of those people seem to haven't ever touched a computer before. Heck, some Doctors refuse to. Seems too complicated for them. 🤣
I get that! At a previous job I was working for a datacomm component supplier. After spending close to an hour trying to get someone to understand the difference between a male and female connector (even after using the “just like in nature” phrase we were told to use to stay politically correct, couldn’t understand )… only to find out that the person I was struggling with was an MD

Man, I even remember being a kid and having my Dad show me how to hook up a TV and telling me about the male/female connections, I got it right away. The dick plug goes into the hole. I get nowadays that can be hard to understand, hole can be male or female, in a tree, swiss cheese, the space between two cushions on a couch.......it's hard.

If I weren't so friggin lazy I would have stuck to the original plans of pro musician, physics professor, or 3d animator in that order. But, I have nearly zero ambition and even less aptitude.

Other stuff I would like to do but never will:
Chef
Welder
Instrument maker
Fine Woodworker
Animal rescue
Aerospace engineer
Sea Captain
Pilot
Have one of those tiki bars on an exotic beach

Mostly I do 3D modeling for heavy civil construction primarily using GPS. I also manage a fleet of Trimble equipment and provide training to equipment operators and grade setters(similar to surveying). Also I do topographic surveys using a drone.
I'm having to learn how to set up a Tremble system for land leveling with a scraper tractor for ag work. I'm so used to working with John Deere's guidance systems that Tremble feels completely foreign to me lol.

That's a very cool thread! Some very surprising working areas. I studied History, got a degree, but as a student I started making some money building pedals, and the years went by and I've been making a living from building pedals ever since. Sometimes I think I destroyed my hobby, but mostly I feel very lucky to live a decent life doing what I love.

I haven’t messed with the AG stuff at all but I setup and train on siteworks, GCS900, earthworks and I used to do SCS900. Are you doing lasers or GPS? I do 95% GPS but also have done lasers and total stations. Primarily on bulldozers, graders and compactors but have done it one dual engine scrapers also.

I managed the grade control for an airport paving job once but that was really stressful and I don’t think I would want to do it again.

Software development coordinator is what the little card on my desk says. But the reality of that is more like a business analyst with a little project management swirled in. The software I help to define, test, and implement then supports property management companies for the HOA industry.

+1 on needing hobbies because my day job can be a soul drain.

I had a friend who was a retired pilot. He had some wild UFO stories.

Once you retire, can you let us know the real deal on what's out there?? :alien:
Please do!!! I love those kinds of stories and theories.
As in, the inhabitants on other planets, like us, can’t travel faster than the speed of light. Because in this universe it isn’t possible. Therefore, any perceived visitors are from other dimensions.
Anyway, back to the Job thread.

P.s. I still haven’t updated my resume. But I just ordered $300 worth of parts.

Well, now you can add “resource acquisition,” to your resume…

What if they are from our universe but they traverse other dimensions to get here? And what about warping gravity to give you a push? I mean, they do it in Star Trek! On second thought, TNG had a fondness for male jumpsuits with one pleated sleeve and I don't foresee that development in male fashion anytime soon - doesn't match the broccoli haircut that's so wild thee days.
