What to charge for assembly

Curious what others that do this strictly as a hobby charge for assembly. I was asked about building a pedal for someone it’s a pedal pcb board the bugfx daydream. Obviously I’ll have him pay for all parts but not really sure what would be fair to charge for assembly. Just kind of curious what others charge people to do this.

Thanks

I’ll echo what’s been said here. Don’t undervalue your time. I had a few commissions in the last year, and I always set my price (leaving a 10/15% buffer). Worst thing, they won’t want to pay that amount and that’s it. I think my price is always more than fair, and I’m not doing that as a business, so I couldn't care less if someone doesn't want to pay that. That said, most of the commissioned builds I did were with great people and it’s always fun building something you know is going to get used.
But yes, your time is valuable and treat it accordingly.

If you were a restaurant you would charge at least 3X the cost of the groceries. Plus tip of course. But that’s probably not enough to cover labor…

I accidentally charged a bit less than I should have and forgot to include labor on my latest commissioned build, its fine because they bought one of my production pedals alongside it so i'm still making money somewhere and I get to build something I don't usually build so I'm happy with the deal. I was planning on charging $10 just because I thought it would be a fun build, but I think it's going to be a good couple hours of labor so probably should have panned on charging more. I find it difficult sometimes to charge a fair rate for myself because I want to give people the best deals I can on things.

Yes i priced out what this pedal in parts is going to cost including shipping between the board the fv-1 enclosure jacks parts etc it’s already at nearly 90$. I did bump up quality from what I often times use to neutriks and a better quality 3pdt, Panasonic and wima caps (which really comes out to like an extra buck since there’s so few in this build). Hoping with a predrilled and powder coated enclosure I can keep time spent pretty low, need to figure out their UV printing service one of these days.
