What's in the mailbox? 📬 📦

Bit of catching up to do...

The Moonn stuff on the right arrived several weeks ago; I've mentioned it, but finally getting a pic up today with the arrival of the stuff on the left.

On the left: At first I couldn't remember ordering that (GPCB), so I wasn't expecting it, or anything. Who knows how long it sat in the mailbox?
A week? Maybe two?

I'd have to sift through my records to find out because Barry still doesn't include a bill of lading with orders 😾.
So it's a PITB to check to make sure you got everything, or in this case — to see when I ordered it.

Whatever. Happy to see the arrival of some bits I needed and a few more to stockpile.

PS: Ordered the GPCB stuff June 7th, delivery via regular Post.

I ordered 600ft of 20 gauge Teflon wire in my favorite colors from Apex Jr:

I have a ton of 22 gauge Tefzel left but but for the Sunn Model T build I am doing I want just a little more. The 20 gauge wire keeps it's shape a bit better when you place it. I had a chance to use some of it the other day when I was refactoring the power amp section of my GT120 (mostly changing to two larger MOVs to protect the OT rather than 6 smaller ones. But also some clean up). It's very good stuff :)

I also got a package from Synthcube with a bunch of parts that cost a penny each. @jessenator posted about it the other day, ty! Anyway, I have bad habits like adding stuff to the cart to make paying for shipping feel a little better, or pad it to get free shipping or whatever. Any way I saw the Russian BMP style knobs and I ordered some. When they came in, I thought to myself, wtf did I order these for. I got to thinking and I looked through my enclosure box and found these 1590XXs. I need to build more big muffs like I need more holes in my head, but I have I've never built any silly large pedals like the OG muff.

I then remembered I have some really small turrets that would be great for this:

After a bit of thought I decided I'm going to build a couple of Skreddy muffs (stupid sized). I like to build sets or themes, so a stupid big IC muff would be cool too, and I remembered having some mil can ICs in my stash somewhere. I could just use turrets for the ICs but I remembered seeing some wire wrap sockets on Ebay, and a week or so later the sockets turned up:

Photo Aug 22 2025, 10 04 18 PM.jpg

They are threaded, I need to figure out the nut size but I think it'll be a cool way to mount them to some FR4. It was a lot of 5 so I think I might make a stupid big Rat and DOD250 as well (if I can find a 2nd 741 can). I'm pretty excited but I have soooo many things in the queue to do first. Like a 4 or 5 HM2 themed pedals (I am sick). Amp crap too.

I've been selling some gear and really trying to think about my rig. Downsizing pedal boards, etc. I broke my no buying pedals resolution and picked up the Warm Pedal76. I've wanted a transformer Cali76 for a long time so this hits the spot. The VU meter is really handy. I think if I wasn't such a dirt addict I'd run just this as my overdrive into an amp, it's very sweet sounding.

Last but not least. New guitar day. A Ibanez baritone:
Photo Aug 22 2025, 12 36 19 PM.jpg

Specifically a RGRTBB21. There's not a lot of baritone guitars that met the specs I want: hardtail, neck through, only 6 strings, not active pickups. My other Baritone is a Reverend Telecaster, and there is a lot to love about it but it has a standard strat style Wilkinson bridge that just is not ideal.

Honeymoon with the RG is good. I don't love the flat black, if it wears poorly I'll polish the whole guitar. I did a small test a while ago on the back of the black satin tele and with right chems it polished right up. Initial impressions with the DiMarzio D activator pickups are good, but I have a Suhr SSV/SSH+ set I can try in it. I think it's nearly the same weight as the tele but has better balance. The baritone tele feels like a battle axe.

Ahh I got so used to mine that I can't play normal guitars easily. I built a 7 string 28.625" but the bridge is moved back so it sits on a classical angle but hand stays below shoulder level. I also made it deliberately neck chunky (it's wide enough for 8 strings but has 7 in wide strat string spacing - same as your ibenez) to not give my hand cramps and the weight means no neck dive and it sits without moving. Fixed bridge, configured HH with passive SD pickups.

Is that the Pete Anderson baritone? I’ve been eyeing those for a while. Reverend makes some great guitars.

Yes! It’s great aside from I don’t love the term. I have come to terms that it’s really best suited for lighter strings. I have been thinking about putting a Duesenberg Multibender on it but I think I depend on my palm too much.

Hal, check out the Floyd Rail Tail. I'm pretty sure it'll drop right in without any mods. Nice low profile trem but it is dive only.
Dih Apex Jr. That's quite a haul! I need to make an order in a bad way. It's a bear to strip but lovely wire. I found this style stripper to work best. When setup properly, seems to get the best strip with knicking the wire much.

I'll check out the Rail Tail. That might be perfect for the Reverend.

I have a Engl Hardtailer coming for my Strandberg. It should turn it into dive only trem for that one too. Sadly pretty expensive for what it is, German made or at least designed so it should be good.

I bought a Knipex 12 12 14 Precision Insulation Stripper when I started using using the Tefzel wire. It actually works even better on the Teflon. I think Tefzel is more slightly physically tough (than Teflon) and Teflon is slightly more heat resistant. Outside of Formula One and space travel the differences are minor. I might have to pick that one you linked any way though. Once in a while I need to strip a wire in the chassis and the Knipex are too big for that really (I just ordered it haha).

Got laid off on the 14th after eight years at the company, proceeded to botch the wiring of a modded EAE Beholder, elected to do the rational thing and order two more PCBs 🙃 😂
Sorry to hear about the job.

Let’s hear more about this beholder project though! What’s the mod? What’d you screw up? What are you gonna do with two?

I built one of these and never really bonded with it, but I’ve got another pcb in the stash to play with at some point.

Polished and reset nut on my Aria CS-250 today and came to conclusion the frets are flat pieces of worn steel. SO placed an order for soothing & calming fret carekit from chrisalsopguitar (thank to whomever mentioned it at fret maintenance thread). Would’ve gone with Japanese files from my local vendor, but Aria’s frets are 2.6mm wide so maybe Alsop’s 2.5mm file gives better crowning than 2.0 or 3.0mm ones I considered. Im no expert and haven’t done this before, but hoping to get some revitalizing filing done as there’s steel heigt in frets still to wear out before going full into refretting!

Great score! K&K was never on my radar but I installed one on a customers guitar recently and was blown away by how accurate it sounded.
