What's your current headache?

Fortunately our new range and dishwasher have been great, it's just been the fridge. My wife is at home doing triage on the affected food to see what needs to be thrown out and what we can fit in our garage fridge.

"Great but also suck" is accurate, I feel like once we get over a reasonable "burn-in" period they should be fine, but I never would have thought new appliances would be so hit-or-miss.
I may be beating a dead horse, or sound like an old man, or both, but they don’t make stuff like they used to anymore. Nothing is easy to repair and that’s by design. We also bought a pedestal washer for small loads and it broke immediately: the part that broke was a crappy plastic frame that was pretty load bearing (held the basket in place) and they had to replace the whole thing because it’s embedded in the basket.

Just another example: early on in the development of light bulbs, manufacturers formed an association to establish standards and stuff. And they decided that they needed to make light bulbs last less time so they could sell more… this stuff is so infuriating to me. Not just because it forces us to shell more money but also it makes so much more waste!

Sorry guys, rant over.

Oh hey, I have a new headache today. We've been saving up and finally splurged for all new kitchen appliances that just got delivered Tuesday. Yesterday I come home from work to find that the brand freaking new fridge is 62 degrees inside and the freezer is 42 degrees. Power is on, the temperatures are set low, the "demo mode" is turned off, but the compressor is not even coming on and everything is just getting warmer. It's obviously under warranty, but repair won't get here until next Tuesday. I could get a replacement from where we bought it, but the soonest that could get here is Wednesday.

Headaches.

When we remodeled our kitchen, somebody noticed the new appliances in our garage and helped themselves to our new gas stove.

My contractor says "Oooh I have no proof of this but I bet it was those guys I brought in for demolition. They are definitely meth heads."

Like.... they're what??

Ever since this thread came up, I've been tempted to gripe about work, because the last few months have been super stressful. I refrained because everyone gets work stress, so my situation doesn't seem noteworthy.

But today I learned my job is being moved to India.

It could be worse; with a re-org, my team and I still have positions. We just went through a major re-org earlier this year that was anything but smooth, and several folks are at wits end. As a manager my job used to be helping the team function and grow, but these days it's to deliver bad news while toeing the company line.

Jobs amirite? That's why I don't have one

I’ve been there last year when we had layoffs. It sucks.

I’m lucky in that I survived 4 rounds of layoffs. They removed entire positions and said that’s our job now. It’s a double whammy of taking on a bunch of existing work, and an increase in incoming work because there’s less people to do it.

There’s such a backlog that it actually became non-stressful. Yeah- I am relieved in knowing there’s no point in trying to “catch up”.

Could be like me, stuck in a job you hate because you don't know what you want to do when you grow up. At an age where going back to school to start over from the bottom with student loans and working nights and weekends again seems worse than just riding it out. I have the kind of job security people would kill for...unless you hate your job of course 😂

That sucks, I'm sorry man.

On another note, I appreciate that you value us but it saddens me you don't value yourself the same! Nobody's headache is any more "worthy" than the next person's. Headaches can be frivolous, too so bitch away!

My washer and dryer are early 90's Maytag and they still work like a charm.

Random, but does anybody know where I can find Boboli's pizza sauce? Flame me if you want but I love it in its high fructose corn syrup majesty. I can't find it anywhere and I want to make a pizza with it so badly. I guess this is my current headache/ first world problem.

The house we rented after we sold our place had this ancient old Washer and Dryer. During lockdown I had zoom meetings and if the wife did laundry during a meeting it was intolerable. Since I had some time on my hands I rebuilt both with the help of online parts retailers and YouTube. I worked for peanuts, literally, with the landlord. Twice a year she sent me a big box of Virginia peanuts because she knew I loved them. I figured it was a pretty decent duty trade. Was kinda like REALLY big pedals...

7 years for a fridge 😭😭😭😭
I should clarify this new one wasn't to replace that one, we bought the fridge in 2017 when we moved into our first house in California. When we sold the house and moved to Illinois the fridge stayed with the house. The new fridge was to replace the 15 year-old fridge in our new house that had been having problems.

Same. Top rack of our dishwasher fell straight off the rails yesterday (full of dishes, by the way, it's lucky it happened while I was loading it and was able to catch it before it hit the bottom rack, also full of dishes) because the rollers are held on by a few tiny clips made of shit plastic. When I was disassembling it to remove the broken pieces, I found several additional broken pieces just hanging out at the bottom of the appliance, and I'm left wondering what idiot designed this while we angrily wash all the dishes by hand.

Meanwhile we have a dryer that istg is from WWII that works reliably every time, no matter what you do to it. I'm pretty sure it's never been maintained.

My wife is watching the WVU vs. Pittsburgh game. It never goes well for WVU.

I would like for some peace and quiet but it sounds like a mix between painful childbirth and Earnest Goes to Chronic Anger Management in there.

*I love my wife.
