What's your current headache?

The Bradford pear tree? They're supposed to smell like rotten flesh sometimes as well.
Oh yes, these are horrible. There is one on my walk to work and I forget about it every time. The smell is just lower amines and I get quite enough of those in the lab, thanks but no thanks.

Also, current literal headache is that I am extremely not a morning person and am on consecutive day 9 of 11 of having to get up at 7am or before and having 8-10hr days of intensive scientific discussion. Had a cup of coffee and two ibuprofen for breakfast yesterday. Lost my voice two days before I was supposed to give a talk at this conference and by some dumb luck managed to get enough of it back to rasp through the exercise without having to ASMR-whisper into the microphone.

Mostly anxiety, not a headache.

Friday at 3pm I got an email from my boss about a meeting today regarding restructuring. We’ve known changes were coming, the new interim CEO started in March and there are whispers but we’re required on call, in office from 2–5pm today (Denver time) for a meeting about it.

A friend on the East Coast got the same email, but their meeting’s 4 hours earlier. Seems odd if layoffs are involved you’d expect simultaneous meetings to prevent leaks so really didn't think much about it.

This morning, an email at exactly 10am came in from the CEO hinted at layoffs without saying it. An hour later, my friend texted, they had their meeting and there is a company wide 10% staff cut and all departments are being restructured. Every. Single. One. His office already let go of some staff.

I was laid off last summer and it got messy so I’m on edge.

Now I wait. This is my first corporate job after years in smaller companies reporting directly to CEOs.

Sales wise, I’m strong: 104% of quota in Q2, tracking 106% in Q3 and already working on solid 2026 deals. I am in the top 3rd of all sales people in Denver. Still, I’m one of the newer hires. Last in, first out?

Do I start looking? Network? Cold call?

I think I will work on my Mouser and Tayda order, that should solve my problems!

Welp - Heard back.

My job is safe, the GM who has been with the company 20 years, the SVP of the region who has been here 14 years and an admin who has been here 25 years are gone.

What the restructure looks like, we find out Thursday.

Let's hope it was worth stock prices going up 2%....

Ah. Only loosing 100s to 1000s of years of experience to add a percent or two back to the PnL.
It's one of the strangest things about working for global corps. We're doing great Stateside, and killing it as a District and Market. But, because the China market is in the crapper, they're cutting staff 10% globally. OT squeeze is on us, supposedly with tighter squeeze to come. No new hires. So, if you have so much work(field repair) that you have to work over, you can't. And you can't hire help. K.

Officially afraid of driving, so that’s awesome.

was driving to ikea with my mom, and an old dude slammed into the back right side of our car. Guy claimed he was in his lane the entire time even though logically it makes no sense. Since I was a passenger I legally don’t count as a witness I guess.

This all comes a week after I was almost run off the road by a logging truck that was swerving late at night on my way to my girlfriend’s house, a month after my sister’s car was totaled by someone going 70 in a school zone, and two months after my sister’s fiancé’s car was totaled in a hit and run in the middle of the night while it was parked.
