What's your current headache?

I bought one of the new epi firebirds bc they released it as a lefty model, which is super super rare. The one I received in the mail has sharp fret ends, rough frets, scratches on the pick guard, and cracks in the finish. This QC stuff isn't ok on an $800 guitar. I had a 2022 epi LP last year and it was a great guitar. I bought this one direct from Gibson thinking they'd keep the best quality for themselves. Outside of the bs, it's like playing a front door. Big heavy awkward and uncomfortable. But it sounds good, like a thick meaty veiny Strat. I've put in a return request, I just feel too weird about it.

I have always been surprised how strongly people react to getting flipped off in general. I don’t know that I’ve ever actually launched a bird from behind the wheel, but I used to throw them a bit on my bicycle in response to getting honked at.

Diesel’s a different animal than the emotional support Raptors and Tacomas with giant lift kits and snorkels that are somehow constantly showroom-clean. Built for the apocalypse, used for Starbucks/ Target runs.

I know some folks on here partake, and my assumption is most of you do so pretty discreetly, so this isn’t aimed at you. Since legalization in Maryland, the smell is everywhere.

I’m not talking about catching a faint whiff once in a while. I mean it’s become a regular part of daily life, parking lots, intersections, sidewalks, even the gym.

The other day a gaggle of teenagers came into the gym, went into the locker room, and walked out. Ten minutes later the whole area smelled and everyone was side-eyeing each other wondering who lit up. That’s the kind of thing I’m talking about.


I genuinely don’t care what people do in their own homes. Smoke, drink, take edibles, whatever, that’s your business. But when it carries into shared public spaces, it stops being just a personal choice.

The commute is what really gets me. I already spend hours in DC-area traffic, which is draining enough, and now I regularly end up behind cars that clearly just smoked. The smell lingers in the air and follows traffic. It’s not subtle.

Even trying to relax outside, biking, running, just getting fresh air, it only takes one car going by to kill the mood. Not trying to start a debate about legalization, just that the public smell factor has gotten pretty bad.

PDX was kind of like that even pre legalization but that shit is still frowned upon. It's also not surprising that with a sudden influx of newbs means you're gonna have an increase in idiocy. Burnin one in traffic is really dumb in every state.

I got a face full of blunt smoke from a parked car while walking my dog the other night. The additional blast of cigar wrapper was pretty gross. It's legal to do that almost anywhere else, in your yard, home, whatever. Why do it in your car where it is unquestionably prohibited? Dumb.

Maryland added another wrinkle that I think plays into why people are noticing it more here.

When recreational weed was legalized here, they also changed the laws so police can’t just detain or initiate a stop based on odor alone. Now an officer has to determine the totality, like whether someone actually smoked in public or is visibly under the influence.

I get the reasoning behind it from a civil liberties standpoint, but the practical effect seems to be that a lot of people feel like smell equals zero consequence. And for a certain crowd, hotboxing is their entire personality.
 
I don't mind the smell when it's good, but most of the stuff around here is complete dog shit. I'm more annoyed that they bought bottom of the barrel stuff rather than something actually nice.
