What's your favorite sandwich?

and here I thought those were an Iowa thing ... speaking of things that can't escape the midwest, nobody brought up maid-rites or bierocks/runzas ... if I had never had a Cuban sammich I might wax episodic about the bierock instead even though it is very ethnic and regional

Oh god, runzas……experienced those on a trip to Nebraska…… talk ab a colon cleanse…. Not that it tasted bad mind you

Must be a Midwest thing for sure, and how have I lived in this earth for nearly half a century and never run across, nor heard of, a Runza?! That’s right up my alley.

My favorite kebab in Milan is a Tunisian guy who makes his own sauce and marinates the meat himself. No vacuum packed cone.
Pretty sure he had ties to al-qaeda but the kebab was too good to give up.
 
Omg so many options! I love bahn mis (with pâté!), Mexican tortas de milanesa de res (which are easily found in Chicago), Mexican cemitas (I had a couple here in Brooklyn that were top notch and then the sandwich place disappeared), Cuban sandwiches, jamon beurre, Spanish bocadillos with just Serrano, cheese and I think butter on baguette. My latest favorite are these Italian sandwiches from Pisillo in Manhattan: the owner is Italian and his sandwiches are amazing. Prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula on their crunchy bread is one of the best and their sandwiches are gigantic. Highly recommended if you’re in Manhattan.

For home made, I usually make simple cheese, salame (sopressata or Napoli or capocollo or other Italian meat, always pork) and some sort of pickled or preserved vegetables (eggplant, artichokes, peppers) with mayonnaise. On toasted sliced sourdough or peasant bread from Bread Alone (a bakery from upstate).
 
I used to travel for work, knew every little town's diners and where the best Club-House was; I still like a good Club-House, but...

Now I'm on a quest to find the perfect Reuben.


I used to get a great Brie & Avocado, or Brie & Roast Beef at a place in HK.

Goat Cheese Sanga at the Bookworm Café on Lamma Island was fantastic. Ahh to be home-away-from-home again...

And the Lamma Deli's roast chicken, made into sandwiches (if it lasted long enough to get some of it home)...


Watched "Chef" with Jon Favreau and had to have a Cuban. Finally got it this last year and another new-to-me thing — deep-fried pickles.



I hate threads like this, 'cause now I want one of everything. I've got a perfectly lovely dinner of turkey, smashed potatoe and corn waiting for me and all I can think of are various types of sandwiches... Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket... Taipei street-food ...


I'm drowning in my own saliva here.

I smoke pretty good pork butts and briskets, and yes they both make an excellent sandwich!
