What's Your Favorite Solder Mask Color?

If you could only choose one solder mask color, which would it be?

  • Green

  • Purple

  • Red

  • Yellow (with white silkscreen)

  • Blue

  • White

  • Black

  • Can't choose! Board color should be based on circuit type.

"Which of these aesthetic options is best to you?"

"I like the least aesthetic one"

Of course you can like what color you like for whatever reason, but claiming it's not pretentious instantly makes it... hipstery? I could argue it's the most pretentious option instead, if you frame it like that.

Ohw, I merely took a stand for the one unpopular kid that I don't dislike (those being white and yellow). The title of the thread / poll doesn't really reflect aesthetic preferences... It asks about one's favorite one, for whatever reason. Aesthetic is just part of the consideration. And I picked green's unpretentiousness (due to it basically being the standard, unassuming one) as my argument's angle.

You're missing the point, my friend. The lack of an aesthetic is itself an aesthetic. Green has been the standard color for PCB's for a while and when you see one it looks like a normal circuit board. Deviating from that normalcy implies some sort of additional thought process, which to some can be seen as pretentiousness.

It’s an interesting thought- the color of a PCB being a pretentious choice.

Now I’m spiraling. Are PCBs themselves pretentious?

What's really pretentious is curved traces and teardrop solder pads 😋 but that's a different thread.

Black just goes with everything. Blue is just a bit classier, but anyone who has seen my builds and face) knows I'm not about the looks.

I like the idea of blue for a PCB but the blue that was used on some PCBs I ordered wasn't a particularly nice colour. I liked the yellow I got once but as pointed out here it's a pain to read the white lettering on. Of the colours readily available I probably like black and purple the best. Green would be cool if they could make it more of a chartreuse. For the life of me I can't work out why they don't do a metallic sparkle.

The funny thing is that there's little consensus on almost all aspects of building pedals but we keep making the same pedals!
