Just an update on the PA tube swaps. First I put in a 12at7. The sound was clear and boosted. Tone controls had more range-but, I believe I might’ve put a bad 12at7 in there. Something was off about it. I could hiss with the gain turned all the way down but as raise it the hiss would go away only to return at the end of the sweep. It was a great clean boost though.
Next I put in a JJ 5751 measured to be high gain. It’s 90/90 lol. Basically a slightly low 12ax7. Again, the sound is full and quieter of course but NO breakup. Little more range out of the tone controls. It sounds very nice although I may try a 12av7 or lower gain 5751 and 12ax7.
Beforehand I had a nos Raytheon long black plate in it. It would break up at about 1 o’clock on the gain dial. I know Raytheon’s, atleast the older ones, could have a good bit of gain similar to Sylvanias but I’m shocked by the difference. Another thing worth mentioning is the breakup was very “gritty” as known to be.
I wonder if there’s some form of snap in tube socket that could be used in these builds? Or maybe some kind of retainer that would allow you to swivel the retainer/socket out so the tip of tube is facing outward to pull out. Either way I enjoyed tube rolling in this pedal so far. Probably not the smartest thing to do but the results were surprising.
Have an Elementary coming up next but just realized it say “bass” Elementary.
@vigilante398 are there 2 different elementarys? Can it be used with guitar stock with satisfactory results or did I screw up. It was made by you.
