The one that got away!

I was thinking about pedals I’ve built and sold or given away. There is one still that haunts me. It was in the first handful I made when I was falling into the building trap. It was a byoc kit octave fuzz with a blank enclosure that I painted and I did the artwork for. I sold it locally and with a handful of other pedals.

Here’s a picture of it.

Is there a pedal you’ve built, no longer have and it haunts you?

I built my first pedal about ten years ago. It was a BYOC Leeds fuzz. After I was done, I played it and thought "k, now what do I do with it?" I wanted to build more pedals but I didn't use pedals at the time, so I sold it to a friend, and built a couple more pedals. A few years ago, after I got back into building pedals, I thought it would be cool to have the first pedal I ever built and got it back from my friend, so it never really got away

I traded the very first pedal I made, a mammoth clone, to a dude on Craigslist for a zvex mastotron which I ended up not bonding with. Gave that to a band mate (still on his pedal board over 10 yrs later) and made another mammoth. It haunted me for a couple weeks tops. I felt so cool for a day having traded 20 dollars worth of parts in an unlabeled bare 1590bb for authentic gear but that wore off quickly as I struggled to find something useful in that mastotron.

To be honest, until reading this thread I had forgotten that my oldest pedal is not in fact my first.

I have given away at least as many pedals as I have kept, and I have sold a handful of others (mostly because people felt the need to pay, which I understand). The only pedal I have built that I see myself using regularly so far on bass is the Mercurial Boost, and I've actually given multiple of them away, including the first one I built for myself. But they are so simple with easy to come by parts that I can build myself one in an afternoon since I already have the artwork. Everyone needs a Mercurial on their board, IMO, and I'm doing my part to make it happen.

Now that I have a guitar to experiment with I suspect I will keep more and expand the kind of pedals I build (not as many drives :ROFLMAO: ).

I had a BYOC opticomp that I traded, along with a box full of other pedals, for a guitar I never got. This was a "Friend." I have no desire to get in touch with him to ask for them back. See, he was a professional musician who had sponsorships with various companies. Always talking about, if you need anything, let me know. Well, I did and offered some stuff in trade, to which he agreed. I'd like to have that stuff back though.

Used to be able to grab the Sovtek BassBalls for less than $75 on Reverb, but those are fewer and farther between these days. I did almost all the Mark Hammer mods on the Sovtek.

That’s a kick… sorry

oh man ... the byoc tri-boost ... I'd like that back
I built one of those and liked it too. Trouble was that I ended up only using the Ge setting and that was the one which inexplicably stopped working. This was before I knew anything about how things worked. Now I know a tiny bit more so may have been able to fix it - or maybe not!
