I don't need any NOS NKT275s to make a great sounding fuzz pedal. What people forget is that the guy who first made a fuzz pedal with an NKT275 wasn't using it for its superb touch-sensitivity, its remarkable sustain factor or its gloriously vocal tone. They used the NKT275 because that's what the shop they bought them from had in stock that day. When the NKT275s ran out they used something else.
So if you want to pay the ridiculous premium for a fuzz pedal which has the difficult to source now NKT275 you are perfectly entitled to. Maybe it will make you feel more in touch with the players who originally used them, and that's ok, I don't care. Maybe if the NKT275 is hard to get there's a reason for that? Anyway, my fuzz pedals which have well-sorted Russian Ge transistors sound every bit as good as I can expect. Do they sound exactly the same? I dunno. Do any two NKT275 fuzzes sound exactly the same? But my Russian Ge transistor fuzzes sound great and just like a good fuzz should. And I suspect mine cost rather less!
Who knows? If I could make a pedal that sells for what an Analogman Sunface with NKT275s does I'd probably build a bunch too!
