what do you do with abandoned projects?

The hard truth is that if you haven’t got that burned out wreck of a PCB working after a single troubleshooting session, you never will.

Throw it in the garbage where it belongs.
But the soft truth is easier to accept!

I actually got around to finding the missing ground in deluxe tweed I made a decade ago and boxed and forgot. Funny after I got my round tuit I took one look at it and said "DOH...."

Pretty sure they all worked (that is the ones that were finished).
The only one I had trouble with was the "mesmerizer" (?) never got it to mesmerize.
I suspect a counterfeit chip.

All my builds have worked, mostly first time. Except that pesky Caesar which never quite worked properly and is now sitting waiting for me to get back to. It does sting a bit when I see everyone else's posts about how much they love their Caesars, but not so much that I want to buy another PCB and start again. If I do end up writing it off, I'll just harvest the worthwhile bits and send the rest to e-waste recyclers.

What, how do you get so lucky?

I typically dmm my components before soldering and, while slow and incredibly boring at times, it is less slow and frustrating than troubleshooting later.

Only probs I’ve had with builds relate to soldering footswitches wrong (upside down … yes … upside down) and melting the innards of a few (yikes) sub-mini toggles. Oh and f’ing J201s.

On further reflection maybe dmm-ing components is not where I need to focus my attention lol.

I entice them into the gig-bag with fresh 9V-battery power. Then in turn gig-bag into the car and drive out of town.

After stopping in the Middle-of-Nowhere Woods, I get them out of the car and gig-bag, tell them it's an outdoor festival just down the path and to "wait behind this tree while I get some fresh batteries out of the car".

Then I drive away quickly, criss-crossing the logging roads so they can't follow the scent, and ...
this next bit is immensely mandatory, compulsory even ...

Never look back, not in the rear-view mirror nor side mirrors and not a turn of the head.
