The Partscaster Thread

Ohhhh Nice. Will have to look Into those.
I was inspired by this site too. They do a load of different options.

@Phil hodson I have an extra set of these Onamac Windery "Pink Tone" pickups gathering dust.
Lemme know if you're interested in them for your "DG Strat".

I also have this set of DG Tribute pickups:

Here's a demo I did for the Planet Tone set. I don't think I did a demo for the Onamac Windery set.

You say Camano, others say Kamino...

So they make clone pickups there, not just clone warriors. Interesting.

Clicked on a link @MichaelW posted and now this is on the way. I have a xaviere strat from guitar fetish and the neck started out pretty nice but with the changing seasons has gotten less nice and could use some fretwork now, I like the rest of the guitar (wish it was SSS though hmmmm) so when the seller sent me the $10 off offer I figured it was time for an upgrade.

This is the latest one I put together...you may have seen it in Will's mailbox thread.

I spotted this Squier Custom Esquire that was part of an auction for a music museum in the UK. The price was low, it included a HSC, and the double-bound burst had tickled my fancy. I simply had no choice!
The indian laurel FB was pretty dry and needed some TLC, but I had already decided a maple would be a better fit for this one. I decided to try a Fender replacement neck (MIM). I've heard good and bad about these, but this one is just fine so lucky me I guess. It was very playable out of the box, but I polished it up for posterity, added a wee shim at the back of the pocket, Fender-locking, and screwed 'er in.
The original pickup was replaced with a Ellis 52T (amazing) and the bridge with a Babicz. I kept the original Jin Sung pots and switch as they were perfectly fine.

How do you like this bridge? I like the concept I just don't know if it truly makes a difference. Not exactly an easy thing to test

It sounds fine. I don't discern a huge difference between it and a hipshot or Fender modern, but definitely a difference from the included bridge assembly. They seem more responsive with a more defined transference.

Welp. This has definitely ignited my GAS for a Tele build!

I went hog wild on partscasters for awhile, then ended up having to sell most of them due to some family stuff. So it goes, I guess! Here’s are a few of my favorites:

• BloomDoom swamp ash body (hardtail)
• American Original 60s neck
• Van Zandt Blues pickups

Left:
• MJT alder body
• AO 60s neck
• Lollar goldfoils
• Mastery bridge
Right:
• BloomDoom swamp ash body
• American Pro neck
• Rio Grande Halfbreed neck pickup, Suhr Classic-T Low Peak bridge pickup
• MJT bridge, Bigsby

And this is the only one I managed to hang onto. By far the best player, and my favorite of the two Strats I have left!

• MJT alder body
• Eric Johnson maple neck
• 57/62 pickups

I still need to do a NGD post for this one, I finally got it finished up last week. Body is no-name Chinese, neck is a roasted maple Mexican Fender. Pickups are Wilkinson rail humbuckers, bridge and tuners are generic but bridge has a high-mass copper block.

Pickguard is anodized aluminum that I lasered a dragon into. The backplate got a similar treatment, but I was feeling more patient so I went with a dragon fighting a peacock.

How do you like that thinline? Love the etching!

How do you like the Lollar Goldfoils?
To be honest, I didn’t have that guitar long enough to form a strong opinion; it was one of the last I built before the family issue and subsequent sell off. I’ve had real Dearmonds on a Bobkat, as well as Novak repros, and I think the Lollars are at least as good sounding. I just don’t feel like I had the pickup height dialed in perfectly before selling due to the tedious process of layering shims.

They were good enough that I’d like to give them another shot one day, though!

Thanks :) I love the thinline, semi-hollow with humbuckers is kind of my thing now. Over the years I've owned:
  • 2 thinline strats
  • 3 thinline teles
  • 2 semi-hollow les pauls
  • 2 full-size gibson hollow bodies
  • 1 semi-hollow jazz bass
And of those 10 guitars, 2 were sparkly blue and 8 were brown. All 10 had humbuckers. 8 of them had gold hardware. I'm a simple man, I know what I like.
